Great article on Jeff Hayes in the Missoulian today. He commented on his developement as a coach and various influences who've shaped his philosophy. Here is what he said about Wayne:
"Q. What did you gain from your experience as a graduate assistant for the Griz and coach Wayne Tinkle?
A. With Wayne, he didn't have the success that he wanted or expected right away, but he has the mind. From him, I learned more little things on the post and the perimeter, whether it's skill development, that sort of thing. He has an endless knowledge for specific sets and plays."
What remains to be seen with Tinks is if Wayne can instill a collective toughness with his team, and get them to be rebounders and defenders, who outwork other teams.
Jeff made no mention of this being a quality he learned from Wayne (which should be the # 1 quality of any head coach) and only metioned his ability for skill development (assistant coach quality).
We keep saying we have the quality of player needed, but what kind of collective mindframe will the team have? I hope Wayne can develop this with our team this year.
