"Given that medical marijuana was legal in MT, but not federally, and marijuana is being sold legally in 2 states plus medical marijuana states, it seems silly to send people to prison for selling medical marijuana." ...not to mention a huge waste of taxpayer money. I continue to be astounded by the drug laws in this country. Jason was treated horribly in this case. The Feds should be ashamed. Somehow, virtually every sort of alcohol is legal but marijuana is not. Why?

Because potheads are too baked to form a decent lobbying group. All jokes aside, there is truth to that. The alcohol lobby and pharmaceutical lobby have no interest in marijuana becoming legal and they have a lot of clout in DC.

Spoken like a true idiot from north central Montana..

You did sense the sarcasm didn't you. I do realize these are state measures, but there will be push back from the feds at some point because of pressure form many lobby groups that oppose the legalization of marijuana.

Im sorry i shouldnt have called you a name but at same time the feds are losing up their stand against marijuana. They are now at least letting owners of marijuana businesses deposit their money into bank accounts and the person who is expected to replace Eric Holder, is for the states decides whether or not it should be legal.

Possibly. The hypocrisy of our government never ceases to amaze me though. If someone is going to lose money by legalizing marijuana, they are going to influence whoever they can to bring the hammer down. I just don't have a whole lot of faith in the Attorney General's office regardless of who is in it.

well said.. I agree, its all about the money and who's gonna cushion who's pockets..

If it didn't negatively impact so many lives, I supposed I'd find this whole "medical" (or otherwise) marijuana debate hilarious. First of all, if it's against the law, don't flaunt that law ... work to change it.

What's "funny" is that we, as a society -- including the "liberals," "progressives," etc. -- now currently breath fire and flame about the terrible health consequences and costs of "second hand" (tobacco) smoke, yet those same people tend to support the legalization of m-j. Hmmm. Will the same laws apply to "joints" as they do to cigarettes? Who knows?

Personally -- as a person trained in chemistry -- I think anyone who ingests, inhales, or injects a powerful chemical into their bodies without medical supervision is a complete idiot. They deserve whatever awful things happens after that (sorry, but you must take personal responsibility). The bad part is when those idiots take innocent bystanders with them. (Drunk drivers obviously included.) That, we would have to do a better job of dealing with.

Cop reality shows like "48 Hours" and the so forth make it clear that drug-related crime absorbs a vast amount of time for law enforcement people. There is obviously a heavy demand for (almost exclusively harmful) drugs, even among so-called "respectable" parts of society.

Prohibition (of alcoholic beverages) comes to mind. As painful as the thought is, it makes objective sense to legalize, regulate, and tax all (currently illegal) drugs. Why? Because -- whether we like it or not (and I don't) -- the demand is there. Making them illegal dramatically raises the price and (for many weak-minded people) makes them somehow more "attractive." These substances will, indeed, hurt people who are dumb enough to use them. At least the revenue from taxing them will help society cope with the cost of treating those self-destructive dimwits.

[BTW, since this thread has long departed from football, FCS or otherwise: Why is it still here?]

Couldn't agree more. I have gone through chemo regime recently, and while I do not need or use pot, I knew many at the center who did...I know many who also bought pain killers on the street because of fed regs, most of which have more to with money and control than anything else. Fortunately, the electorate in Ca, led by the governor, is moving to end the stupid laws regarding drug use here...
Oxy at the five and dime....
