Talked with Jakes uncle today and he said Jake has a separated shoulder as is out for maybe the season. Has anyone else heard anything like this?

Jake is from Butte. This means he probably busted it up himself on purpose just to see how it feels so he can be fully prepared for the season. Anyone else would be out all year. This kid will take a day or two off from practice. #buttetough

There's a fine line between "Butte Tough" and "Butte Stupid."

This is true, and a tough break for Jake. Great kid who definitely deserved better.

Let's just say that if I knew a doc...and he happened to specialize in Sports Medicine...a separated shoulder is something that can easily return to play in just a few weeks. That is unless it's a Type III or higher. That's a bummer because if it's that bad, sometimes they need surgery. Heal well Jake! And do your rehab!

medical redshirts require NCAA approval. The technical term is Medical Hardship Waiver, so the terminology always asks the question of "he/she has already red-shirted". He would be one of those "6th year seniors" that you hear about. There are special circumstances that he would have to qualify for, this, if is season ending, would qualify. I've had to fill out paperwork for this stuff in the past and besides being a pain in the rear end (imagine that NCAA), it's very detailed and needs every T crossed and I dotted.
