It's Jackie Robinson today for MLB.

Does anyone know who the first black player was for the Griz? and when did he play?

Not sure if he was the first, but Naseby "Doc" Rhinehart came to Missoula in 1931 from Milwaukee to play football & basketball, also competing in track & field. He graduated in 1935 & stayed on as UM head certified athletic trainer for 47 years, retiring in 1982.

Thanks GoldStandardGriz - That's who I thought would be in the running. Nice to know we beat the big leagues.

And Naseby was one of the greatest Griz ever - in so many ways

In the book "University of Montana; Football Vault" by Mick Holien, on page 28; it says Jim Dorsey was probably the 1st and he talked Rhinehart to come to Montana.
