The obvious assumption from all of this is that Bradshaw is not on scholarship for the 2013-14 year. Remember he will not be eligible until january of 2014.

Even if this is the case, UM still needs to trim 1 scholarship player:

I assume Emerson is not on scholarship for the 2013-14 year. That would give Wayne 5 scholarships for the five new guys.

Riley is a walk-on. Emerson once was a walk on, but was awarded a scholarship when one became available. It's as easy to take someone off a scholarship as it is to put them on one, and its a fairly common practice with walk-ons.

Transferring when he did meant Bradshaw was likely going to have to pay his own way the second semester last year, then hopefully get a scholarship for the up coming year. Several schools may have given him that option but he said publicly after he signed with us that the only place he wanted to be was Missoula. From what we can piece together, Tinks had an open spot this last semester so offered to give him that but told him he would have to pay his own way this coming year. So, Bradshaw's options were (a) Pay for 1 semester and go to another school he did not want to be at or (b) Come home, play where he wanted to play and pay for 2 semesters. When you look at how it likely played out, it seems like a pretty easy decision for Riley and one that should not be so hard to believe.
