Great game today. Great game by Hasquet with a career high 30 points. 12 - 15 from the field, 4 - 6 from 3 pt line, 2 - 2 from the freethrow line. He was feelin' it today.
Great dunk by Criswell. I believe that was the only dunk of his career here at UM, and he made it being fouled on top of that. Criswell scored 21 points on 6 - 8 from the field, 4 of 5 from 3 pt line, 5 - 5 from freethrow line, 3 assists and no turnovers.
Mike Chavez scored 16 points, only missed 1 freethrow. Was 4 - 4 from field, 3 - 3 from 3 pt line, 5 - 6 from freethrow line.
Strait got tired of scoring in double digits so he missed 4 of 5 freethrows.
Many of you will think the Griz made a statement to the league leader NAU. Maybe they did. But, NAU didn't seem to play with the kind of intensity they needed to come back, plus from listening to Jordan Hasquet on the post game it seemed from what he said NAU didn't play with a lot of intensity as they should have. If this game was for the marbles, I suspect it would have been closer.
So, this saturday we have:
PSU at EWU
Sac St at MSU.
If home teams win, Griz get to stop Stuckey again. Griz can take a little time off, maybe prepare a little for either EWU, Sac St, or MSU.
But, lets hope Griz do not get rusty with this time off.
With the way the tournament is set up, second place really isn't that much of an advantage over the 3rd or 4th place finishers who can at least play at home and then have 2 days off, getting just about as much time to prepare for whoever they play as the top 2 finishers. NAU being home and not traveling definitely has the advantage but they can become rusty with the 8 days off. They really didn't shoot that bad today. IMO, I liked the tournament when it was 3 days in a row.
Anyway, here is to the Griz winning two in a row at Flagstaff. Griz have depth and will needed it at 7,000 feet in elevation. This brings up another reason I hate the way the tournament is setup. Griz will still be playing a team that won't be gassed from a game the previous night played at 7,000 feet in elevation.
