How bad is the Mountain west this year!?

SJSU rolling over MW-West leading UNLV (!!!) right now. The same SJSU who should have lost to PSU!?

Colorado State actually might win a game if they can hold on against the wolfpack???

Quite a few of their teams have lost to FCS teams and most of them look marginal at best, even Boise St and SDSU!

WTF is going on in that conference?

Bad!!!!

The simple answer to what is going on is the oft strived for "parody" which consistently results in mediocrity. Boise State carried that conference for a lot of years and now its just a crap shoot of who is going to rise to the top of the sludge, whether through a solid group of upper classmen or the diamond in the rough stud athlete. The conference as a whole needs to find a new strategy to make itself relevant again in the everchanging landscape. Playing neutral site showcase games or 8 am starts or an equivalent to the maction wednesday games. They have had a hard time keeping coaches when the "upper division" power 5 conferences come calling. Recruiting is getting harder and harder too with the facilities necessary to make mountain west climates appealing to athletes. NIL is also going to make it harder. Why would you go play in Laramie and freeze your ass off when you can play for another group of 5 out east that gets more press and has better facilities?

Putting the words "relevant, again, and Mountain West Conference" together is an optimistic historical revision. The greatest trick play game of all-time, Georgia beating Hawaii like a left handed step-child, and Barry Sanders using Wyoming for pylons. Help me out if I'm missing any time in the last 40 years that a MWC team has been on National TV.

Utah beating Alabama, boise beating Oregon in the Blount helmet game..and that’s just 2.

Really not selling the move up to me here. Like it or not this is the only option in existence currently that makes sense and it doesn’t look good.

Watching the Nevada game and listening to how sooo many of these players have transferred in conference is crazy!
CSU has like 8 players that used to be at Nevada, their kicker was at Hawaii and I beleive a player from SDSU.

So the tranfer portal is having not only its usual effect but MWC teams are cannibalizing each other.

Well Nevada’s coach went to CSU, so a boatload of players followed him.

Oh absolutely, There we other players on both teams though from other MWC teams. I love that Coach Norvell ruined two teams in one offseason. Living here I hate Nevada fans and their love of Chris AULT

You are right, BYU's Jr team ended the season undefeated and in seventh place, tell me the last FCS team that went undefeated and ended up seventh? In a consolation Sugar Bowl, at least they got some beads off gals they weren't related to. I tried to look up Blount helmet game, no idea but I'm sure it was a barn burner. Riverside Tech (Boise St.) had a 4 year run where they never played a single team you could find on a map but went undefeated or one loss, the moment the big kids noticed them, they got swatted like flies with an ugly field. Isn't Kellen Moore the biggest deal down there at QB? LOL

So I’m in the Reno airport waiting to get on the team charter, I’m chatting with this lady. Very nice. Asked me a bunch of get to know you questions. Then here come coach Ault to sit down….next to his wife. I had no idea. A bunch of people were talking to me afterward…almost like I wasn’t supposed to talk to her. But it was funny, both she and coach ault mentioned that nobody talks to them before getting on the plane. Hahahaha

I remember exactly where I was for the Blount “punch” game! We watch the punch on repeat about 20 times because the BSU player’s face was hilarious and he got what he was asking for when poking the duck!

The loud mouth Boise player Blount punched, Hout, is on the ISU staff now. He spent a couple of years on Choate's staff I believe. I believe he was actually born in Montana? Not certain about that but I do remember him talking about visiting relatives in the state.

He was born and grew up in Coeur d' Alene.

2007- Boise State beat Oklahoma with the infamous "Statue of Liberty" play. Shocked and rocked the football world that year.

That's the trick play game I mentioned, I still like watching those three or four plays. Talk about firing every bullet in the gun!

That game is my all time favorite non-Griz games!

But just so we are clear Boise State wasn't actually in the MWC at that time, they were still in the WAC.

That said the MWC has been great in recent years with a lot of national spotlight so I completely disagree with the posters denigrating the conference. It is obviously horrendous this season, but that shouldn't mean much when it comes to move up talk. Well except to say that the Griz would probably win the MWC this season with our current team.
