Yep, good teams have shitty games sometimes. I always go back and point out the absolute debacle against UNC in Missoula the 2009-2010 season (when we played New Mexico). We scored 48 points and shot 32% from the field. We looked awful.
Some of the posts were basically saying that we had 2 players on the team and everyone else sucked. Others said if a team shut down AJ then the Griz had no chance.
At the end of the year though we made it to the NCAA tournament and all the struggles throughout the season (and yes we had a lot) were quickly forgotten. Instead people use that team to compare this one to in order to show how awful we are THIS year and how awesome and amazing that team was.
And if we make it to the NCAA tournament this year, a couple years down the road when we are struggling again at some point in a season people will compare that team to this years team forgetting about all the struggles we had throughout the season.
It happens damn near every year. 2004-2005 we sucked because we got blown out 72-46 by Western Kentucky, were 4-7 at one point with blowout losses to WKU, Stanford and San Francisco. We made it to the NCAA tournament though so that's all forgotten.
2005-2006 We started the season being stomped by Boise 90-69. The season was over after the first game! We were awful! Cancel the rest of the games and drop basketball at the school, we suck! Wait... made it to the NCAA tournament again and won a game. We'll forget that loss to Boise and the blowout loss to Idaho State.
etc etc.. Every year. It happens. It usually happens a few times throughout the season. We've been very spoiled the past couple of years that it didn't happen in conference very often.
