If you want to simply make the tourney and perhaps win a game here and there, you won't have much success trying to beat better teams at their own game. It may work great against Northern Colorado, but what about the 100 teams in the natuion with better athletes than UM? If you ever want a chance to beat these teams, you gotta play parcheesi, because they are much better golfers.
CDA, I agreed with you, but I am starting to change my mind. I think the griz should just recruit better athletes than UNC, UCLA, Memphis, Tennessee, everybody really. I think this would be the best way to pull off amazing upsets in the big dance. I betcha UM can get these kids to come to Missoula. This way, Silvertip's strategy would be the way to victory: faster, quicker, higher leaping, better rebounding, better ball handling, generally more skilled players. I wonder why UM doesn't do this. Is it because there are about 150 schools ahead of them on the recruiting totem pole? Big deal! Once these kids see a Missoula winter, and the griz BB winning tradition, they'll be sold. Great HS basketball players are starting to realize that the sun, and playing on national TV are overrated. Recruiting great three-point shooters because they are the only realistic way to pull off upsets and take your program to the next level? Pssh! Just skip the middle man.
