The idea that "good" defenses keep teams under 12ish is just dumb. In the FCS, only five defenses have given up on average less than "12ish" points per game since 2008. I think you're looking for what great defenses do. Montana's defense had one bad game and then limited Eastern to 36 points (I'd call that a good game).....relax your expectations and please, learn the difference between good and great

When Ty improves 20-24 points against Eastern then you guys can start talking about him being a head coach until then I would dig up Hysell and prop him up on the sideline before letting Ty have the job

Yes, going to the playoffs every year but one in several decades is boring and the same shit. We need new blood. Maybe Earle Solomonsen, or Pat Kennedy. Only Alpha's true love, NDSU, has given up less than 12 points per game. UM ranks 18th in the nation,at 20.3. Of playoff teams, that is 7th.

Everyone would rather see Griz winning championships, but bringing in an unknown or non-insider coach does not guarantee championships. In fact, it could lead to disruption and lack of continuity in the program. If it's Earle Solomonson, it leads to disaster. It depends on the coach, as well as his staff. Can they recruit at this level? Can they recruit in the Northwest and CA? Can they recruit in MT?

Many of you don't realize how good of a coaching staff UM currently has. You just complain and bitch about things you know little or nothing about. You act like every potential up and comer wants to come to UM. You seem to think that every successful lower level coach is the next Brian Kelly. You seem to think that coaches who have progressed well beyond coaching at the FCS level will want to take big pay cuts and come here.

Haslam will have to evaluate as best he can, but it will be harder to evaluate coaches than are not known to Haslam and whomever he seeks advice from. For every Brian Kelly, there are maybe 10 or so that will not improve the program from where it is today.

We'll see who actually applies and how serious they are. Maybe there will be some terrific candidates who are actually interested.

I have to agree with PR, in the sense that, there's NO POSSIBLE WAY, anyone can know that every bitch the fans have about the program will go away if a non-Griz head coach is hired. I don't care who you are YOU DO NOT KNOW THAT. Having said that, being a coach already connected to the Griz doesn't gaurentee anything either, and while I know PR and Brint and I don't agree on this, I'm not sold on Ty or Scott Gragg right now. BUT, if either one of them are hired, nothing changes for me, I love the Griz and I'll love them as head coach.

Again, no matter WHO is hired, no one really knows what will become of the Griz' program. Especially next season. If you were paying attention Saturday, all those impact players that pretty much dominated the Bobcats from start to finish, yeah, those Griz' greats won't be here when UM takes on NDSU next August. Whoever comes in, Ty or Leipold or Baldwin, or even Belicik, it's a whole new world next season.

Having said all that, I will add, I think one thing you can almost count on, if it's not Ty or Scott, you will see some players leave. And if it's someone outside the program, you will see some players not here next year to make room for others. Either way, that's the part I really hate about a coaching change.

And promoting a current assistant does not guarantee a championship. Also, you don't know how much other people know, so quit trying to make it seem as though you are the only person that does. Every person knows that when hiring a new coach it may not work, but I believe most people have seen enough of the current staff to question whether or not they would be a good hire at this time. You and havgriz seem to think yes, but it seems more tend to think no.

Now there's an idea! Like I said in another thread, if Haslam conducts a fair and open search, follows his process, let's the chips fall where they fall, and finds a guy he thinks is the right guy; I'm good with whoever he hires internal or external.
