My first thought -- they learned something from Peter Fields, who cited a "lack of leadership" for Kramer's firing (termination for cause), which ulitmately resulted in Kramer winning a settlement for wrongful termination.
I believe the State of Montana/University of Montana is an at-will employer -- they can terminate employment at any time without saying why. But, if they say WHY and that WHY includes cause, they will most likely have a legal claim from those terminated.
In years past, coaches contracts have been a yearly renewal. It was while BH and Kramer were coaching that was changed. If memory serves, they can now get three year contracts.
