In Search of ... the Final Four

Well, we were afraid that picking Lo-Chic to move on might jinx them ... but it looks like they got the MOJO. K-State has good players (or they would not be in the Elite-8), but so do the Ramblers. The difference is, the Wildcats are just flat being out-hustled. There's still time, and maybe their coach's tirade will light a fire ... but it does not look good for KSU.

The Missouri Valley just got a greatly needed economic boost. Some of their football playing teams were lagging behind the beautiful Dakota schools in revenue and they didn't need to fall further behind the Summit.

One ticket punched.

Until this game, Lo-Chic looked mostly "lucky" -- and they were, with three wins by a total of 4 points. But they were also good enough to put themselves in position to make those plays for the win. Tonight, they absolutely pounded a pretty good (25-win) KSU team. On the season, K-State played great defense, yet the Ramblers lit it up to the tune of 57.4% on twos and 50% on treys.

Pretty amazing stuff.

Excruciating! ... is the only way to describe the Michigan - Florida State game. Two teams who mostly play defense, so the score is 27-26 Michigan with a minute to go in the half. Does that sound (all too) familiar?

Edit: That's the halftime score. Not a lot of fouls called, but both offenses are just pitiful.

It really didn't get any better, with the final at 58-54 Michigan (Griz game was 61-47, not hugely different). But at least the Griz can say they lost to a Final-Four team.

Michigan was a bad draw for us or for any 12-16 seeded team. Very diciplined. Great defense. Will probably be in the championship game.

Villanova pounding the crap out of T-Tech, 36-23 at the half. Not sure what the Raiders can do about it, other than the obvious fact that they need to shoot better (9 of 27 on twos, 1 of 10 on treys). But, so far, 'Nova just looks too quick and too athletic: T-Tech picked up 12 fouls vs 7 for 'Nova, mostly because they were a half-step late on D, tried to recover, and ending up fouling.

Hell of a ball game going on between Kansas and Duke. Going back and forth, not often separated by more than 2-3 point either way.

Edit: No big surprise, the way game has gone. Headed for overtime at 72-72.

Kansas and Duke ... the best game of the weekend (and the only OT).

Interesting final four: an 11, a 3 and two 1-seeds (Lo-Chic, Michigan, Kansas, Villanova). And the way the brackets set up, a 3 or 11 seed will play in the final championship game.

On a side note I think Shanks, formerly UND, is on Chicago Loyola and is in the final four. Made the most of the graduate transfer rule I guess
