If Montana was invited to the MWC..

Didn't someone just make the perfect analogy that the MWC is really just a defunct WAC??

Huh? The MWC is not defunct. With Wyoming , CSU, Fresno State, et al as members it is the only viable landing spot for any western US program looking to survive at the FBS level.
Reread what I wrote thru your bifocals... ;) The almost "defunct" WAC.

There is no "almost" in your post... don't embarrass yourself

Navy that was an interesting article you posted in the other form. One would think that the MWC would consider UM and MSU as members. Both schools geographically would make sense. I honestly was surprised to see CUSA offer FCS schools to join. That sort of makes me wonder then if the MWC might be thinking of the same thing.

I also agree that PAC-12 schools would work out home and away games with UM. I could easily see OSU, WSU, UTAH working with the Griz on that. Once other PAC-12 schools was coming to UM was a good thing more would come. We might not get USC, Stanford or UCLA to bite but when's the last time you saw one of those schools at a mid major type school for football.
You are truly dreaming if you ever really think a PAC 12 team will appear in Wash/Griz.

Oregon and Oregon State have played at Utah State. OSU was in late 90s or early 2000s. I think Oregon visited USU around 2005, if memory serves.

BYU is an independent and having some problems filling out some of its late season schedules. UM could do a home and home with them.
It will never happen. BYU last appeared in Missoula in 1962; they have a much higher opinion of themselves now.

Kem....I'm not so sure about that. UM has come a long way in football since then. A great deal depends on our front man ( AD ) and his salesmanship skills. BYU will listen....

I agree that Montana made the right decsion not to join the dying WAC.

With C-USA going to 14, I think it is possible that the MWC will go beyond just adding USU and SJSU. If Montana were offered a spot in the MWC do you think they should join?
Lots of places the following could go, but here it is ... from The Sports Network:

How many hits can the FCS take?

The FCS-to-FBS door was never fully shut and it's threatening to fly wide open.

When the University of Montana passed last fall on the opportunity to leave the Big Sky Conference for the Western Athletic Conference, it seemed conference realignment might begin to calm across the FCS, with other schools seeing one of its football powers deciding not to move up to the FBS.

But Georgia Southern's fundraising campaign to make such a move possible and Old Dominion's reported opportunity to join Conference USA has amped up the nervous feelings again for conference and school decision makers. They don't want to be left holding an empty bag, perhaps in the way FBS members Idaho and New Mexico State seemingly find themselves as perhaps the only football- playing schools in the WAC by next year.

In the overall scheme of things, only a small percentage of FCS schools are making the move to the FBS, or will make it eventually. The question is, will it be the wrong mix for the FCS?

It's mess -- which we knew -- and likely to get messier. :o

...then yo best check on yo pigs cause they goin to fly away!
Oh? Where are the (Arkansas) Razorbacks going?

But back to the topic (sorta). Saw a comment on a BSU sports blog (can't provide the link 'cause it suddenly disappeared) that claimed that Boise State would never play a Big East game. This guy/gal contended that coming major changes in the big-$$$ conferences were about to dump Big East football into the toilet. Specifically, the whole big-bowl auto-qualifier thing was about to be re-written for/by just the top football dogs. Without the automatic qualification to a major BCS bowl, the Big East has absolutely nothing positive to offer Boise. Even with the cost of possible penalties, that would surely send the Broncos back to the MWC. What happens then?

Then, I can start pulling for BSU again. When they announced going to the Big East, it pissed me off. This would be a good sign for Div 1 western football. It sickens me, when DIV 1 football is losing is regional appeal for conferences. Plus, I like the MWC. It was a diss to that conference, and showed no signs of loyalty by Boise State. I would not blame the MWC, if they denied them back into the conference. It would be poetic justice.

Poor attempt at humor, sorry.
I just don't see the Griz getting a invititation to the MWC. If offered, yes, go with it! The present MWC is much more preferable to the present BSC. With the big boys pulling all the strings, you never know what the MWC could look like in a year or two. It could be a new version of the WAC a couple years down the road. Right now, sitting on the sidelines watching this cannibalistic cabal is more secure.

I think the MWC would be a good move for the Griz. Certainly more stable than the WAC. With the MWC inviting USU and SJSU, I have a hard time beleiving the Griz couldn't or wouldn't be considered for membership by the MWC. Especially now that the merger with C-USA seems to be not happening. From what I have been hearing, UTEP will not be leaving the Texas schools and will remain in C-USA. So the it also looks like adding UTEP may also not be an option for the MWC, further helping UM's cause.

I also agree with the blogger that the Griz could get home and home games with BYU, especially as long as BYU is an independent.

Tail gate would be interesting...milk anyone?
