Dear Hurricanes Fan:

As you probably have heard, a decision has been made for the Hurricanes to move their home football games from the Orange Bowl Stadium to Dolphin Stadium expected to begin in 2008. This decision was extremely difficult for all involved.

We are pleased with the relationship we have enjoyed with the City of Miami at the Orange Bowl over the years. We have had great history there. We look forward to continuing our success and creating new history as we move to Dolphin Stadium. Dolphin Stadium will provide our student-athletes, our coaches, staff, friends and fans with an exciting new environment for Hurricanes Football. It is one of the great stadiums in the country and we are looking forward to making this historic adjustment.

How will the move affect you? We are dedicated to making the transition as easy as possible, but there will no doubt be some necessary adjustments. With respect to seating it will, of course, be necessary to reseat all of our fans. This process will be based on priority points within giving levels. The first levels to be reseated will be our Lifetime Living Scholars, our Living Scholars and the Golden Canes. Thereafter, all remaining Hurricane Club donors based on giving levels, followed by season ticket holders who are non-donors based on consecutive years of purchase will be reseated.

Within your level the priority will be based on your priority points. This point system was established in 2004 and is updated three times each year as you gain more points. Points are given for:

Contributions to the Hurricane Club
Contributions to the endowment program
Contributions to the BankUnited Center
Contributions to the Sprint Campaign and other campaigns
The number of consecutive seasons you have held season tickets
The number of consecutive years you have been a member of the Hurricane Club
Your alumni status at the University
Your status as a former letter winner as a UM athlete
For a complete description of the Priority Point System please visit our website at http://www.hurricanesports.cstv.com/sports/hurricaneclub/priority-point-system.html.

You have previously been made aware of your giving level and priority points. Shortly you will be receiving a postcard which will give your current priority points. If you disagree or believe they should be updated please call the Hurricane Club at 305-284-6699.

This was not an easy decision. We regret moving away from our friends in the City of Miami, but we believe we have made the best decision.

Cordially,

PAUL T. DEE
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

I saw a Hurricanes game in the Ol' Orange Bowl....man that place was a madhouse. By far the loudest place I had seen a football game. The electricity and pandomonium from the stands definitely bled onto the field.

Joe Robbie with the seatbacks and suburban feel won't be able to provide the same atmosphere in my opinion. I saw a playoff game there (on the same trip) and it was lame as hell in my opinion.

There was ten times the excitement in a Hurricanes loss as there was in a Dolphins playoff win.

I agree. Dolphin Stadium/Pro Player/Joe Robbie is a stale environment with horrible seating. BUT there are luxury boxes, and a video screen, etc that attracts high value ads and ticket holders. Plus more parking (not on someone's lawn) and it's easier to get to. Good by OB, I've seen a good 50 games in that place between 1983-1997, I'll miss it.

Honestly I was surprised to see that Miami was still in the Orange Bowl. It is one of the older stadiums left and with the level that Miami football is at I figured they would try to get a newer stadium closer to campus.

UM has many problems w a new stadium. They can't afford one, first of all. Second of all, they can't get land in Miami anyone could afford, other than on the OB's current site, the OB site is going to the Marlins new retractable roof stadium. I think they hope to make enough money from this deal w H. Wayne H. that they can save money up to maybe make a deal with someone else. Would've been nice to get a deal done w/ FIU to share a stadium, but, that's too late.
