Anaconda's 6-6 redshirt freshman Tyler Hurley is transferring from UM to Montana-Western in Dillon where he can be on scholarship and get more playing time. He had about 5 minutes in 5 games and scored 2 points this season. He walked on at UM. KECI tv quoted Wayne Tinkle.

good for him... he has a chance to develop into a GREAT frontier conference player... wish him all the best!!!

Just wondering... does it seem like we lose more of these young players than most other schools?

He was a walkon that wants a better chance to play. I really doubt that this is any different from other schools with walkons.

Good for Ty!!! I think he came in this deal knowing that it would be an uphill battle but it was something he would like to see if he could do. I'm sure coach Tinkle was very supportive and helpful to Ty with this move. Bood luck Ty Hurley!

I was pulling for things to work out for Tyler as a GRIZ. With our offensive struggles this year, I wonder if his perimeter game could have given us a boost now and then? At least he is going somewhere to get playing time. I hope he lights it up at Western.

Good for Tyler! I have watched tyler play in many games and i think he is a good player and will develop into a better player. He has worked very hard these past two years at the Griz! i give him props for walking on to the griz knowing there could have been a chance he wouldn't get to play! I support hurley in his decision to go to western... that is a hard choice to make for a college kid! i wish him the best of luck at western and cant wait to hear nothing but good things about him in the paper!
Good Luck Tyler!!!!!

Tyler should have an immediate impact at Western with his combination of size (although I am not sure he is quite 6-6) and perimeter skills, he should really create match up problems for Frontier teams. It will be interesting to see what an impact he an Kellen Hasquet should have next year, with both in the line up they should be tough to defend.

Hasquet signed with MT. Tech not Western. In other Frontier news Carroll Coach Gary Turcott announced his retirement in a press conference today. Look for one of his assistants to be joining the Grizzlies as a G.A next season.

I hope this assistant is a good offensive coach. Last year we added our defensive coach, so this year we need to focus on offense.

NCAA rules don't allow G.A. to do any court coaching, skill development, and recruiting. They primarily do administrative stuff like scheduling, scouting, film exchange, camps, and equipment management.

The only Carroll asst. I see maybe joining would be Kurt Paulson. However, his dad is best friends with Holst and from what I hear there appears to be no lost love between Holst and Tinkle. I would think Kurt would stay at Carroll because, more than likely Veltri will get moved up and that free's up more $ for Kurt and the other asst. However, if Shawn Nelson is named you could have an entire staff change.
