How To Return To Dominance

All the "technical football talk" aside, the easiest way for RTD is for the rest of the Big Sky teams to be as bad as they once were.I can't remember a time when we had as many teams ranked (deservedly) as we have the past few years......

Nailed it.

If the defense could hold teams on 3rd and 19 more often.....not give up a super easy 15 followed by an off sides jump on 4th and 4.....they'd get off the field sooner too! :thumb:
That has happened, but it is mostly anecdotal; it does not explain the season or our outstanding defensive metrics over 8 games. We are consistently struggling offensively.

Or a "Daily Double" by Robby....defensive penalty followed by unsportsmanlike penalty...two weeks in a row.....another anecdote!

How can you consider the Griz a top defense when they fail to get any sacks/pressure from the D-line? I have personally never heard of a defense that was considered great that couldn't generate pressure outside of blitzing.

I think we have an above average defense at best. Great corner and linebacker play, with the less than stellar safety and Dline play and a a terrible DC that can't adjust his scheme to save his life.

Not sure why anyone thought we could get anything great from Baer. The guy's long track record isn't exactly glowing. Same could be said for Rosie, for that matter.
Go ahead and ignore the data; the Griz are #1 in BSC against the rush and near the leaders in total defense and scoring allowed. Our primary problems are not on defense. Our lack of offensive production continues to put pressure on the defense forcing them to play too many minutes of the game. Our two losses were by 7 and 6 points where a bit of offensive production could have us undefeated.

Lol that's great, but my beef isn't with the rush defense. We are the #8 passing defense in a conference that is dominated by passing teams. Teams that have effective QB play have consistently shown ability to find holes in our zone to move the ball.

Look at who the top teams in the conference are, they are also the top teams in passing defense.

If the 3-3-5 is such a killer defensive scheme, then why does it remain a seldom used gimmick scheme despite the fact that it's built to stop prolific passing offenses, which are bigger than ever at both the college and NFL level?

This is literally false.

Ok only one last weekend. The other was a few weeks back.

"First down ____________ !! "Tackle by Robby Hauck!"

Pretty simple, when teams can't run the ball, they throw more. But they haven't scored that much on us. Key fact is our defense and STs have and will keep us in every game in spite of a very struggling offense that is not carrying its share of the load.

So you are saying that "a few weeks back" Robby Hauck took a defensive penalty and then an unsportsmanlike penalty?

   You'd think that would be obvious even to the most casual observer....but apparently not. The other fact is that when you're behind and the game is nearing the end, you throw more.

Robbys had one last game. Defensive hold and then unsportsmanlike. Beaver Senior leader and Robby coach's son so both pretty stupid. And not sure which game but pretty sure both have Daily Doubled in at least one more game. Thing that bothers me with Robby is he's hardly sat a play in 3 years. Is he really that good? Absolutely no one else that could spell him for a couple plays find a guy in coverage and make an important tackle that's not a first down for the opponent? Tim Hauck 15 career picks numerous forced fumbles blocked kicks. Robby Hauck one career pick a few tackles for loss and all time NCAA leader in opponent first down tackles. Griz might just find it's been a position of weakness....in a couple years when another player gets to play it!

I might be....but only the bolded part right? :thumb:

Without sounding too sarcastic,

Isn't dominating people the best way to return to dominance?

Autocratic entities win based upon their ability to instill fear and dominate people. On the other hand, if you are democratic (supporter of democratic philosophies, not the party) you might embrace encouraging others to participate more. Even with Southern Utah, we made them feel, even as they exit the Big Sky, as a worthwhile member of our society.

Or to summarize Bears beat battle star gallactica.

Everyone knows he's only on the team and playing because he's the HC's son!
