How many Griz would go to Wyoming??

Half of the stadium definitely wasn't red.. though, a lot of Nebraska kids attend UW.. and there was a lot of red in the student section. The capacity isn't 32,580, it's 29,181, the last upgrades actually took a few seats away to put in the new suites. New turf goes in this summer:

Willie and I are planning a Laramie road trip for this game with our sideline passes.

Ok, maybe not half, but pretty darn close...Although Big Red Nation does travel as well as anyone in the country!

it depends on the number of elk carcasses. the more of them, the more griz. geddes will probably get there first, and be one of the last to leave.

Fuck yeah I am going! Any suggestions on things to parlay into the trip? I'm talkin' some real humanity..

For those going to Wyoming, buy your tickets from the Griz. Haslam told me the deal with Wyoming gives the UM AD 2000 tickets to sell for revenue; part of the deal. So if you buy from UM, the revenue goes to UM; if you buy from Wyoming or at the stadium, the revenue goes to Wyoming. No brainer. Hopefully, UM will sell out the 2000 tickets so it's a non-issue. I doubt the 2000 tickets are in prime location.

Visitors section is typically on the Southwest section of the stadium, probably lower deck. Stretches from 10'ish yard line through the end zone.

The Griz will be lucky to see 1k in Laramie. We don't travel well on road games unless it's convenient or there's a championship atmosphere. Laramie doesn't qualify in either category.

??????

Fully 1/4 of the Walkup Skydome is Griz fans every other year. There were well over 1,000 at Cal Poly a couple years ago...neither of those places is exactly easy to get to.

Denver area Griz fans will be a helluva lot more enthused about going to Laramie than they are going to Greeley for a game with UNC and its high school atmosphere. I went to the last UM-UW game and would probably go again. Can't recall the Griz QB from Hawaii, but he floated a pass into the flat that turned into a pick six served up to a Cowboy corner - from Billings. Very competitive game except for that boo boo...

OH the memories! I had prime seats--actually was cheerleading at that game. Wasn't happy and was hard to stay in "role" and continue to cheer..

 don't forget our semifinal game in 2008 at James Madison. We had a good chunk of fans attend that game too, all the way across the country. Griz fans travel better than just about every team in the FCS.

A very Missoula-centric judgement. Maybe true for Missoula fans who are spoiled by only having to drive across town to home games. Many, many others of us travel many hundreds of miles to each home game and for many of us, Laramie is closer than Missoula.

Griz fans travel very well for the playoffs, and fairly well to some other locations. I think turnout for the Cowboy game would be a bit above average. Beyond the die hards who travel to every away game, there should be some from within Wyoming, the Denver metro area, and possibly a few "extra" driving down out of Billings. That said I'll be shocked if there are 3,000 Montana fans in the stands. We may even need to work to cover the 2,000 allocation. So go ahead and shock me. Make up your mind to attend and bring a car load.

1/3 to 1/4 of the stadium at FBS games for visiting fans? You high? There were MAYBE 1,000 Penn State fans out of 105,000+ at the Ohio State vs Penn State game in 2011 when I was there.

Just don't see much blue in there...

Well, they probably just pidgin hole them at the 5-10yd line, like we do to visiting teams; by giving them 100 crammed tickets. We have the ability to sell-out because of season ticket holders! I was at Ducks at USC this year and there was at least one 1/3 Ducks fans, and they were 2/3 as loud at the game as USC. Most of the other FBS games I have seen is was more like a 1/4. Also, I know Wa-Griz stadium is louder than Iowa St's 55k stadium and per-capita louder than USC!

Going to have to agree with Willie on this one. I'm not sure what other FBS games you're going to, but I can tell you that most FBS games do not have 1/3 or even 1/4 visiting fans. Your two examples don't hold a lot of water considering Oregon was having a much better season than USC at the time and many USC fans had already given up on that season. Iowa? Since when has that been an FBS stadium that scares visiting teams? It's an above ground stadium that isn't built to hold sound like a WA-Griz, Autzen, or Husky Stadium. Plus it's not as if Iowa has been a hot ticket lately either. I've been to many FBS games at U DUB, Wazzu, and Idaho during the last decade when the home teams weren't even good. The visiting teams included Okalahoma, UCLA, Arizona State, Oregon State, Oregon, Nebraska, and Eastern Washington. The only two I've even seen with a 1/4 to 1/3 in visiting attendance was Nebraska at Washington and Eastern Washington at Idaho. Out side of huge fan bases like Nebraska, Notre Dame and a few others, I don't think 1/3 to 1/4 of FBS stadiums are filled with visiting fans. At least not in the 6 major conferences.

You beat me to it. That is the same side I sat on and there was a TON of RED :)

A worthwhile side trip while in Laramie is to take the drive down 287 (65 miles; nice drive) to Ft. Collins. Stock up on booze at the Supermarket Liquor store on Mulberry. In case lots, prices there run about 60% of what we pay in MT. Huge selection. There are also great restaurants in Old Town. Of course now you can buy your mj there as well...

Well, that's just crazy talk.

That game will be cheaper for me to get to than if it were in Missoula. And yes, we'll be there.

Cal Poly has become a rival of late so, again, playoff atmosphere is present. Additionally, it was early in the season of a new coach (assuming you're talking about 2010) which garnered hope and extra interest for continued success. UND game last year garnered maybe 800 and that's being very generous.

I haven't found the acronym, "Griz fans travel better than all other FCS teams," convincing after watching how NDSU travels. We can learn a lot from them.

Success is new to NDSU....talk to me in 25 years. ;)

And to what do you credit our showing in Flagstaff each time? Playoff atmosphere?

Lots of gold, lots of red. It was disappointing to see so much red, but there was a lot of Nebraska people in the Laramie/Cheyenne area who wear gold for 11 games and for the 12th they wear red.. kinda lame. However, a full War Memorial Stadium is a good stadium.
