How far is a "Deep Playoff run"

Brought this up in another thread, but I really want to know what everyone feels... So what is a deep playoff run, now that there are 24 teams in the field...

Is it reaching the quarterfinals? And if so, does it matter if your team had a first round bye and only won one game to get there?

Is it Semis, or all the way to the Championship game?

Quarterfinals for this current Griz team means you’re top 8 nationally, which is a huge step forward. I would consider that deep. Under the old format (16 teams) and under old expectations, I would have said semifinals

I don't mean just the griz... I mean for any fan base. Seems like everyone always says "when was the last time ____ made a deep playoff run" or "Talk after you have made a deep playoff run". so you are saying Quarterfinals for any team is a deep playoff run.

Depends on the team and the year you had. Quarter finals loss for an unbeaten 2 seed is not a deep run but for a 7-5 team that was a pretty good run. To me it is semi finals or the chipper. That is a pretty good year.

Yeah I think it is team specific. Semis for any team (but NDSU maybe) but quarters for most

Nothing short of the semifinals.
That first round of the playoffs is just an exhibition round to get the non-scholarship/less than max scholarship schools involved. Any program with with the max number of scholarships for FCS should advance through that. If they don't, their spot should have gone to some other team.

I think this is solid. 2 wins for an non-seed gets to the quarters, which isn't terrible.
2 wins for a seed means the semis, which I don't think anyone would argue isn't deep.
