How about Royce's handling of the Saudi student?

The faculty is in an uproar about that specifically. When Pflu praised JJ's moral fiber that set off the feminist faculty. Engstrom was in a corner plain and simple.

He has to go!

Royce is right. A change in leadership needed. The University has mishandled the sexual assault issues (many of which do not involve athletes) badly. He should stand up and take responsibility for the blunders and immediately submit his resignation.

I really don't think he mishandled the Saudi student case. Here we had a serial rapist, and the University knew who he was, but because the girls didn't go to the police right away there was nothing the police could do about it. The university is not a police, with the power to detain a person based on an accusation or two, but they do have the power to protect their students by kicking the guy out, and that is what they did. It allowed him to get away, but the good news is that campus is safe from him.

Since he was an alleged serial rapist, I think the University felt that they couldn't stand by an wait and see which happens first; the police get involved or he rapes again. Its a tough call, but I think they made the right decision.

this has LONG been a bigger problem than the problems with the football team! Saudi, iranians,in fact almost every middle east country, their male students have raped american women and ran back home, shut down the international students section at UM and clean house there also. in fact, top leadership at UM should ALL BE FIRED! :thumb: . Why don't you write about that missoulian!

Please correct me if i am wrong but is this not the same leadership at UM that help destroy MSU also 30 years ago and now they were put in charge of UM a few years ago and DID the same thing :o

I am waiting for Royce Engstrom to fire all those responsible for allowing the Islamist to get away, and shut down the Middle Eastern Studies section to prevent further rape and mayhem!

Please excuse my ignorance, but I don't have time to check eGriz all the time during the off-season.

With all of the current uproar, I have one question: has anyone been convicted of anything yet?

most if not all middle east students flee long before the legal system can take action! :o at least they did back in the 70's and 80's and i'm sure the cowards still do!

Nobody has been convicted of anything-- and the only true Rape case (as we understand rape-- an actual blatant attack) was the Saudi student. And yes, I believe Engstrom handled that situation terribly. Do I expect someone to handle every situation perfectly?? Absolutely not. With that said however, if the basis of firing Pflu and O'Day was how they handled certain allegations, then what we have is a severe double standard. And, if that is the case, it is absurd to think that Engstrom has any right to remain President of The University of Montana. Certainly considering he was highly UN-qualified for the job from the beginning, and got the job by default.

Yes to this.
