Before last night, the Twin Bridges boys basketball team knew nothing but defeat in the State C Tournament. Previous squads have captured the 3rd place trophy seven times over the past 100 years but were never able to even play in the the championship game-that all changed last night. Before a packed Metra Park crowd of 9,000 plus screeming fans the Falcons downed previously un-beaten Rocky boy 63-61 in a memorable championship game. The Falcons overcame a 26-8 deficit and 4-28 shooting in the first half to fight back and win its very first state championship. Jake Schmidt hit a 3 pointer with 8 seconds remaining (the only time Twin Bridges held the lead the entire game) to cap a 6-0 run in the last 20 seconds of the game to secure the title for the Falcons. Hundreds of Twin Bridges fans stood in disbelief with smiles on their faces for an hour after the game and celebrated (including myself) with the team next to the court. It was one of those moments you never wanted to end (100 years in the making)-I will remember it for the rest of my days CONGRATS FALCONS!
