Highest Attendance for an FCS Playoff Game?

The thought just occurred to me - with a sellout on our hands for the semifinal, and the stadium size being what it is, could this be the highest attended home FCS Playoff game ever?

Recent history -
Furman, Delaware, SEMO, EWU and SELA playoff games did not sell out. Even App State in 2009 was close, but not a sellout.

NDSU/SDSU who have hosted many playoff games over the last decade can’t get close to a Wa Griz sellout attendance due to their own stadiums size.

Not 100%, but I think Marshall had some big crowds in the 90s. They certainly had a bigger crowd than wagriz can hold for the 95 chipper, but I suppose that would've been a "neutral" site. App State also had a larger capacity...not sure of they sold it out during their run in the mid-2000s.

In 1995, Montana vs Marshall at Huntington, WV had 32,106.

I kinda see championship games differently than playoff home games. Technically, that game was a home game for Marshall when it should have been neutral as a championship game. I'd be curious to see what Marshall's attendance was for its playoff games leading up to the championship. That'd be more of an apples-to-apples comparison.

Yeah, I hear ya! This one surely has an asterisk next to it (since it was a de facto home game for them). Marshall's next highest attendance in '95 regaulr season was 26,982. The others were less impressive... not breaking the 20,000 mark.

App State had a semifinal game against Richmond in '07 that had 24,140. While there might be other FCS playoff games higher than this, I'm not seeing it right now.

All I know is that being in the student section in 09 App State game sure felt like a sell out. We were crammed in there tight. Worked out well tho kept everyone warm during that cold blizzard

I was also in the student section for the App State game and can confirm, I did not feel cold at all the entire game. It wasn't until I was leaving the stadium after the game when I felt the cold set in.

Yeah man. It was legit warm. We were absolutely crammed. Could hardly move. But we could jump up and down. That’s why whenever they show shots of the student section we’re all just bouncing up and down haha.

Little pregame festivities also helped with staying warm.

The people next to us weren't the usual season ticket holders and when I yelled as the Griz came out of the tunnel, he asked if I was going to yell all game. "Yup!" is all I said, but I did at least put my hands around my mouth to direct the yell.

Yeah pathetic showing from SDSU. Be surprised if they had 12k there. Why did they build a stadium that large if they never come close to selling it out?

I believe the next items on South Dakota’s wish list are paved roads and indoor plumbing.

So the very same as at Reno H Sales stadium then.

Not even on their best day, could UMs head counters come up with 32,107 attendance in a 25,000+ stadium.
