Help me out here. Vertical?

:o :o A comment on this board indicates that a player has a "97 inch vertical. Thats right a 97 inch vertical." :o :o Apparently I do not know what vertical means. I thought a vertical was measured by placing the hand on the wall at the highest point of reach and then jumping and touching the highest point of reach. As example player can touch 7 feet 6 inches and jumps up and can touch 8 feet 9 inches a difference of 1 foot 3 inches. Result would be a vertical of 15 inches. :o :o If you can clear up my amazement I will react accordingly and analyze the situation.

Barn Ball, you are correct. If someone has a 97 inch vertical, then they wear a big "S" on their chest, or they don't understand how to measure "vertical".

The largest verticle that I've ever seen, is my girlfriend's brother had a 49" vertical in high school. He actually knocked himself out on the rim during a bball game on two different occasions.

wow, that's an incredible leaper. I've heard of low 40's but 49 is great.

We're talking the human species here, not primates! 8)

Ryan Slider, the former Grizzly hooper (circa 1998) has a scar on the top of his forehead from the rim. I remember talking to him and he said that he went to block a shot and cut his head open on the rim. This was a very believable story coming from Slider who was genetic freak and had absolutely great hops. I saw him come close to hitting his head against the rim on more then one occasion.

Now about the guy who knocked himself out twice. Are you kidding me??? That dude would still have to be going up with incredible force when he made contact with the rim. How tall was he? This sounds bogus but I could believe it with more details.

Obviously the 97" vertical comment was a joke to accompany a point I was making.

:o :o Thanks for clearing that up and to all who provided some interesting info and commentary. You can see that I am in constant shock and may miss a point of emphasis here and there. Point taken. :o :o
