Help convince Harthung-Hopeful thinking thread

As another thread indicates the GRIZ are in the running for

SG 21 Michael Harthun - 4 star ranked recruit
(South Medford HS)
Medford, OR 6-3/175/15.0 Med Yes Montana, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine

I have not seen this kid play in person, but have friends in Oregon and N. California that have seen him. I have been told this kid is the real deal, and would be a major recruiting coup for the GRIZ.

So what the hell, why not a fan thread to encourage this kid to sign with the GRIZ? Anyone knowing this kid send him the link or forward to GRIZ coaches, Who knows it may help change his interest some.

Michael, Why sign with the GRIZ?

(1) Playing time more immediately available
(2) Very good young players already signed or already here in Selvig, Qvale, Rundles. SG needs to be filled.
(3) Griznation would welcome you with open arms
(4) Be the most highly ranked HS player to sign with Montana
(5) Be part of taking GRIZ basketball to new heights, a signing like this is needed to do that.
(6) Close enough to home to get back home when needed, but far enough from home to be your own person
(7) Better chance to play in the Big Dance every year. OSU, next to never there. Oregon, may have to wait longer to be a big part of their puzzle. Pepperdine- needs to overtake Gonzaga and has been down recently.
(8) Hard for me to imagine a fan or fans (hopefully others will join me here) willing to do something like this. If so, those fans too think you a player worth pursuing.
(9) You would be part of restoring the ZOO as it was many years ago. One of the most feared courts in AMERICA for opponents. GRIZ fans better fill the house with a 4 star recruit aboard.

Michael and parents, please sign with the GRIZ! We will not let you down. I hope I am 1st of many to get on this board encouraging his signing with the GRIZ.

At the very least, we can have some fun with this thread. With that said, please keep this respectful.

As do I. Basketball needs a signing like this to get the support for quite a few griz fans that are borderline right now as for basketball. I have no doubts that Selvig and Hurley will help in state and local fan support over the next few years. However, a 4 star recruit would help immensely, for curiosity sake alone. I would think fans would come to games alone just to see how good a 4 star recruit really is! Have we had that here before? Selvig as a 3 star already has stirred interest. Rundles being a diamond in the rough is surely looking good too. Harthung though would most definately be the player to take interest to a much higher level in my opinion.

People that don't go to games now might show up once out of curiosity, but they will come back because they liked the product on the floor. Most fans want to see a team that plays hard for 40 minutes, hustles, dives for loose balls, crashes the boards, etc. Then it comes down to winning. As the wins go up, people start talking about the Griz and more people go because it is now cool. There are about 4000 die hard fans that are going because they love basketball and the Griz. The remaining 3500 need a reason. Win and they will come. I would love to see a highly touted recruit too, but that doesn't guarantee success on the court. Rodney Stuckey is projected as a late 1st round pick if he were to declare this season, yet EWU didn't even qualify for the BSC Tourney as a top 6 team in a 9 team league.

After watching both EWU and Montana though there were many differences making Montana the better team.
The last 3 years Montana has done well in teaching players to pass, be unselfish, and spacing. That has been very consistent with the GRIZ under Coach K and now Tinks. EWU has not had near the supporting cast necessary for Stuckey. The GRIZ have had much better depth, meanwhile Stuckey is expected to everything for EWU. 06/07 GRIZ were inconsistent because of inconsistent defense.

I am very comfortable in the Talent the GRIZ already have aboard. A player such as Harthun would not be expected to do everything, nor would have to do everything as Stuckey does with EWU. Harthun would be a perfect fit, as of now SG is our biggest question mark for the next few years. Rundles belongs at the 1. Martin will be a Sr. Graves is unproven that can play 1 too. Staudacher has to find consistency. Cox is unproven. Spurgettis has the heart, and great fit for a role player. To me the door is wide open at 2 for a player of this caliber.

Those with "no" votes are other bigsky fans really meaning to say "No, we do not want Harthun to be lighting our teams up for 20 plus a night, game in, game out over 4 years." or Coaches saying "No, we do not want to gameplan against Harthun for 4 years." or "Oh no, here come the GRIZ w/Harthun to defeat us once again!" :thumb:
