Help a Griz in Boston

Hey, guys, I could use some help.

I'm living in Boston and surrounded by sudden converts to BC hoops. Radio in this town is pretty pathetic anyway, but the dumb-a$$es on 850AM are truly the dregs of society. They couldn't find Montana on a map. People in this town think the world revolves around this city. It gets old... So.....

Help me with some snappy one-liners to come back on all the smack talk I'm sure to hear the next couple of days.

Good thing I told the high schoolers I'm teaching that I'd give them a day w/o homework if Montana made the Sweet Sixteen. They're rooting for the GOOD GUYS!

GO GRIZ!

are you kidding? I give 'em homework EVERY night! Heck only half of them do it as it is. Besides, I gotta milk this for all it's worth!

GG, I don't know what you teach, but maybe tomorrow's lesson can be geography no matter what course you teach. Time for those Bahsterners to to learn a little about Montana and Missoula!

Today, one of 'em brought up how "important" it was to go to a "ranked" college, like one in U.S. News and World Report's annual list.

I called B.S. I told them all about how UM has the 19th highest number of Rhodes Scholars of ANY school in North America. And if you take out the private schools and military academies, Montana has the FOURTH-highest number.

I told them about the Griz student this year who was a finalist for the Rhodes AND Mitchell scholarships.

I told them about what a great journalism, forestry, business and law school UM is, not to mention the HUGE grant to build a new education building and what commitment that means to the Ed. program... I've already bragged on the football team...

They're just kids, they don't know anything beyond what limited experience they've had.

But I told them to consider that what's more important than a "name brand" school is one that works for THEM. No sense in spending $40K annually for a Harvard education you hate when you could go to Evergreen State College and be loving life.. Or to Bowdoin or Colby or, yes, a PUBLIC institution like Montana, or Michigan or Colorado. I might've gotten through to some of 'em.

But the ADULTS here are almost as bad!!! I swear half of them just give a condescending smile when they ask and I tell them that I went to UM... OK, sure it ain't Hah-vahd. It isn't Tufts. It might not even be BC.

But the way I see it, I've had the huevos to live all over this country, unlike some of them who've stuck around in one city all their lives and they think it's so great.. But that's because they don't know anything else.

Anyway, it's those adults who're going to be newly-minted BC fans who figure it'll be BC in a walk.. And I could use some verbal ammunition for THEM!

Lay it on me!

BTW, everett, I teach 10th and 9th grade history
Student-teaching actuallly. I went back to grad school a year ago and I'll finish my MA in less than two months.

Ignorant about Montana? What do you expect of folks who've never been west of the James River. They need to add another 2,000 miles to the Freedom Trail and find out about MT for themselves. If I were as dense about Bean Town, I'd think all Bostonians were wing tip shoes. And finally, driving in MT is a straight line between A and B, not C toZ, to F, to Q, to....you get the idea. Laying out Commonwealth Avenue on an old cow path started a disasterous pattern. Boston deserves its over budget, over schedule "Big Dig." May they Enjoy.

It took them double OT to bounce Pacific. That's pretty much all the smack you should need between now and Saturday.

If someone starts with the trash talkin', challenge them to a 10K.
