Head Coach

IMO if they do not find a permanent HC by the start of the season, the term "interim" HC will be removed and that person WILL BE the HC..........maybe only on a year to year contract basis for a while but if the team does OK (in all aspects) I do not think he'll be replaced.

BW, do you think theres any chance we see an Ohio State type situation where an OC steps in for this season and the hiring committee starts fresh next year after coaching transitions start? I'd have to think that most coaches we would want would be under contract for next season already and not looking for a move with only fall practices to get a team ready to play.
Yes. Hopefully, yes. Hiring someone just hanging around now would be the path of least resistance, not the better long term solution. A December 2012/January 2013 hire would be ideal. We can do fine in 2012 with the right interim HC - if we can come up with a QB.

I disagree about arbuckle as "intrim" head coach. not only has he been a head coach at the college level, he also has experence with coming into a bad sitution and making it better! and best of all, this is coach arbuckle's offense, when he was head coach at oregen tech. but only until a new head coach is named. he also has been a with a lot of pac-10 schools.

I just don't see a lot of clear and decisive instruction from him at times during practice. Additionally keep in mind there's been lots of complaints/concerns over ST play in general for most of his tenure here. I think Dick knows ST well and that's his thing right now - I really just don't see him being able to manage a whole team, but that is based totally on my observations... I could be way off.

I think it would be terrific if Craig Paulson would be asked to step up. Given the fact that he lost the DC position in Las Vegas over the winter, it might be a good move for him. He has a great reputation and knows montana and Missoula.

their was a head coach once that needed a new offense had a friend who was making up a new offense. that head coach was don read that oc was dick arbuckle  just sayin' ;)

Let the OC & DC share the responsibilities... split the HC position pay between the two & begin retaining quality coaches. There's no need to screw up the chemistry that the coaching staff already has any further.

if you want a coach to come in here with high morals AND good coaching, montana needs to get it's checkbook out just ask wsu how much it costs to win!
High morals????????????

One thing for certain, the national press has in effect been a search. Any coach that is interested is aware of the opening, and I would bet the phone ringer is almost wore out

To answer BWahlberg's question about Coach Beers - he was the HC at Western MT in the early 90's after he came back from NFL Europe. Took Western to the playoffs both years...lost in semi his second year. Also was head coach in the Arena League in Denver for a year, plus several years as a high school head coach in Oregon. Vast experience on both sides of the ball. Would be an excellent choice...all Griz. :thumb:

the head coach reports to the athletic director, who reports to the president, that, in reverse order is the way they will be hired as well, in case the a/d has to fire the new h/c.....i would bet the farm the president has told the coaches, one of them is the interim h/c until the search comes up with names AFTER next season...why? because after next season gives us the best chance to attract the right person this president needs to do the job , he feels needs to be done and it also gives us the best chance to keep players we have and the recruits we have signed.....the president had to have this in mind before he made such a dramatic move...imo,,,of course if he didn't he is in way over his head.....
