Since no one else had a moment, I thought I'd step in. Of course, we could all be too busy ... and that's fine.

As a history buff, I also urge everyone to remember what we're celebrating: When the Declaration of Independence was signed, prospects for the colonies looked like s**t. Those who signed the document knew that failure would likely lead to their arrest for treason. Consequences might include death, or at least confiscation of their belongings, etc. But they signed anyway.

So celebrate arty: ... but also remember.

Core menu: Baked chicken, corn on the cob, apple pie (a la mode?) ... and whatever else shows up.

Windy, but otherwise a great day here in terms of weather.

Reuben sandwiches are a lunch specialty. Some extra work, but worth it ... especially if you use good-quality corned beef.

Historical tidbit: The copy of the Declaration of Independence sent to General George Washington had only
two signatures, the President of the Continental Congress*, and Secretary Charles Thomson. Knowing they all faced possible death for treason, the names of the other 54 signers were withheld from public knowledge. They were only released after a couple of wins on the field (of battle).

* The system absolutely persists in translating the name in a weird way. (John Hancock). His signature was famous for being large enough for King George to read without his spectacles.

Got another minute, now that the chicken has gone into the oven. No grillin' just yet. That's a bit of a surprise since we have neighbors within smelling distance who usually can't wait to fire it up. Of course, it is pretty hot here ... a good 10 degree above normal for early July. We hear there's someone in the area who does ribs (pork) better than anybody, but have never been able to confirm that.

So that's going on out there? Must be getting close to time for the burger, dogs, and brauts. Anybody doing something different, and cool?

So far ... a good 4th. We live under the flight path of the hospital rescue 'copter, and it has been relatively quiet ( :thumb: ) .

Having grown up on the hi-line, I can assure you Canadians are not good neighbors. They are spineless Sallys that care more about keeping the fringe happy over their own. Canada, “killing one farm and ranch at a time to keep everything equal”. That should be their slogan, oh and an “always keep your hand out.”

Just so you know: We have a pretty good idea about what a "normal" day sounds like, versus when it heats up. On a bad day, not only does the copter shuttle in and out more often, but sometimes it comes in "hot" -- low, close and fast (including the landing). [Sometimes we hear about those in the news (usually a car crash).] So far, this has still been a relatively calm day.

Of course, if you or your family is involved in an incident, it's no consolation that the day was "calm." So ... Got a buzz? Call a cab or find a designated driver.
