griz down by seven. strait misses a bunny and we blow an alley-oop dunk, or we're within three after digging a 2-14 hole to start.

my first chance to see the griz, early observations:

1. matt martin is too small and too slow. he runs this team like he's driving miss daisy. supposed to give you veteran leadership but he looked absolutely bewildered the first four minutes. failed to meet a pass, allowing west virginia to steal and grab an early 4-0 lead. we began to even out the athleticism the minute rundles and swift--and later ellis--entered the game. send matt over to wash-griz. maybe he can still play quarterback.

2. gus chase may be a great kid. he's a great deal too short to play major d-1 basketball.

3. last year's team was pretty much set at four positions; this year, three. it's obvious we're still struggling to find combinations. we miss matthews and criswell more than i thought.

4. we cut an early 12 point lead to seven. we can still win this game. but somebody other than strait must step up.

We need changes at the guard position. Martin wants to be the leader, but he is really having troubles with size and quickness, and he is in a major shooting slump. Ellis is a quiet court leader, but he is not a threat to score, but he can handle high preasure teams like this. We need him with teams like W.V.U. to handle the ball and D up. Right now I think we need to gamble on Rundles. He is a little of both, and give him time he could be freshman of the year in the Big Sky!
