When you're in charge of an all-volunteer event that depends upon donated $$$ and other resources, it starts to wear on you. Year after year ... begging people to come and help, going back to the same (potential) sponsors for money, and on and on. Speaking from personal experience, I'm amazed they lasted as long as they did.

Some organizers eventually find a deep-pockets sponsor to pay for the whole thing. But then it becomes just another commercial -- the "Acme Hardware Whatever Bowl" -- and loses credibility (IMO).

Yep... Have dealt with it as well. Loved helping out, but then it always seems to get thrown on one persons shoulders.
