GSU FAN SUPPORT

It looks like the fan support today at the GSU game is equivalent to a mediocre high school team. What a difference between that and Washington-Grizzly!!!!!!

I would be embarrassed to be a GSU fan today. Only 6000 or so in the stands for a semifinal game with national TV exposure. I really believe this anemic turnout gave 1-AA football a black eye . We can only hope the seeding comittee remembers this when awarding home field playoff games next year.

The best thing for IAA would have been to have one of those games featuring the Griz in Washington Griz Stadium. Wow, GA Southern Upset, and on top of being upset they had a dismal fan turnout. Weak man. Never would that happen in Missoula.

The Southern Conference is vastly overrated. They were crying because they didn't get four teams into the playoffs and two, Appalachian State and Furman, couldn't even get out of the first round. Idaho State would have made a better showing than any of them and should have been there. The Big Sky did themselves proud to lose two very close games to the number one team. Go McNeese! Win it all! Hope to see you again next year. Go GRIZ!

I for one am embarrassed! We used to get 20,000 at the games when I played in the late 80's. It has been this way the last couple of years. I dont understand it, but it sucks!

I feel for you Parr. You guys still have one of the best Football programs in the country. The fans seem to have gotten awfully spoiled.

Hope we get to play you guys next year. At Wash/Griz of course. Or maybe Chattanooga?

Hello Griz Fans,

I was one of the 6,000 there today (gotta be honest, it looked like more, closer to 9k or 10k, but what do I know) . . . anyway, a couple of things . . .

1. Do UM have a marketing campaign in place by the athletic department to promote games, and if so, how heavily does it promote games?

2. Not to diminish the attendance aspect (it was horrible, I don't know what the deal was with the lack of fans), but the WKU coach did say that the "atmosphere" of the game was unlike anything he's experienced at the 1-AA level. . . I know there weren't a lot of fans there, but we that were screamed our heads off in the 4th.

3. What are the chances of us meeting in Nooga next year? We'll do our part and you do yours and we'll correct this season!

Merry Christmas

Football here is marketed so heavily here that I wish they could do the same for our basketball program.

Seems like every store has some Griz logo on it. Griz posters everywhere. Griz football seems to be front page of sports page and several times front page of the whole paper.

There is radio and tv advertising everywhere.

You have to get sponsors. that is the key. These sponsors advertise Grizzly athletics and football. Plus of course, you have to have a winning team.

But winning doesn't always increase attendance if program starts to stagnate. Just maybe, GSU, hiring coaches from within the system for so long, people are tired of watching it.

UM has been promoting basketball coaches for about 20 years, and attendance eventually declined and program stagnated.

Our AD didn't renew our last BB coach's contract and then Hired outside for a new coach. Basketball is much more exciting with a new system in place. The team isn't all that great right now though, but are more entertaining and chances of improvement are much better in future.

This could be what GSU needs to do with their football program. Though I doubt they should fire their coach like UM did but maybe next there is a coaching change, hire a new coach from outside and change to a different system. Sometimes a change is good.

Of course, maybe fans had made prior arrangements before season. Maybe that 1 - 2 start you had dissappointed a lot of fans and they made vacation plans at that time and are not available to watch the game.

I think we have a 90% chance of making it to the national championhip game. We will have the players that were injured this year back on defense and finally get that rotation going so that Griz defense doesn't tire out in the fourth quarter so much like it did against McNeese State.

We will also have an awesome QB and better, more experienced receivers next year to make our offense one of the most potent offenses in 1AA. Plus, we are going to get a new head coach to put this potent offense together into one awesome package that just won't be stopped.

Due to things unknown, have to make it a small 10 percent chance of not making it due to uncontrollable circumstances like injuries, etc.

I go to the games cause I love football...However, there isn't a bad seat in the house...now its an entertainment event better than any movie, or anything else. Also, I've sat by the same people for a several years now...was late for one game...We sat down right at kickoff, and my griz family was really worried...They thought something happened.

Monte, skydivers, tunnel, motorcycles, N-zone, cannon, Grizvision, twinkies(I want cookies), m&m's, Griz Gun, loud music....that's all we got going on...Hey when's auditions for new music man???

I would like to have the tailgating like in McNeese though...heard it was cool!!!Not sure how to improve that?

Looking at Montana and Georgia Southern, both are very, very successful I-AA programs, but I think fan support here is greater because it is THE show. Montanans want to see Montana's team. They are the team that represents us to the rest of the nation.

In Georgia, maybe even around Statesboro, people follow Georgia and Georgia Tech, both traditionally strong BCS programs. If you're a fan of a big-time team, you don't know anything about I-AA, and you wouldn't care. The people at Georgia Southern games probably consist more of students, alumni, locals and casual football fans.

I'm real impressed at I-AA programs, like McNeese State and Youngstown State, that have tremendous fan support even with college football giants in their own backyards.

It's a shame that attendence generally drops off in the playoffs for all programs. That's trouble when you only have five days to sell all your tickets. Our first round playoff game was the lowest attended Griz home game since a quarterfinal game six years ago.

Thats because it was Thanksgiving weekend and the students were gone and people we out of town visiting family and other people were out on the last weekend of hunting season trying to fill their tags.

Eagle 01, The chances are very good the Griz will be in the NC game next year, here is why:

1.) We only lose 2 starters.
2.) We get back 2 pre season All Americans that were injured and never played this year, which almost is like saying we don't lose any starters from this years team.
3.) This years team had no fewer than 3 starters out of any given game throughout the season. We were missing 7 starters when we lost to McNeese St. by 4 points.
4.) We will have a 2 year starter from U. of Colorado as our QB next year. He was rated as a top 10 QB this year in D-1, he will have 2 years left at Montana.
5.) We will have a new coach that will bring back our passing game, big plus.
6.) we are adding 4,000 more seats to our stadium, making a capacity crowd of 24,000 fans. Our 20,000 fans were already the loudest in 1-AA, no dispute.

While we are bragging about our fan support, we shouldn't just mention our gaudy attendence figures...don't forget every Griz game is broadcast statewide, and many other Griz fans throughout the country put in the time and effort to track down that sattelite signal and watch the game. And don't forget the streaming feed of the game on the internet that is the envy of many a division 1-A program.
