Grizzly Vs. Santa Clara 12/22 preview

Griz got a big game against Mid-major foe Santa Clara on thursday. In my opinion this game will be the biggest test for this grizzly team this season. The stanford game was a huge win but watching that game it wasnt much of a game. If the griz can get out of california without a loss it will be huge coming home to only find a good Wisconsin-Milwakuee team. The players need to respond to Krysko calling them out after a sloppy win over Riverside team (0-7). Santa Clara is coming off a win over a high school team and if the grizzlies get up on them early it will be over! Go Griz

Santa Clara (5-4)
If anybody cares here is ESPN's stats for them...

Fans really need to get out there on 12/30 against UW Mil, and 1/5 against ISU. Students will be gone for 2 of the toughest games all year, really gonna need local people, especially high school students to step up.

UW-Mil might be the best team to play in Missoula all year (excluding bracket-buster game), and ISU game might be the key conference game.

With the students gone maybe Um needs to run a "College Student for the Day" promotion - let high school students in for free with ASB card, put them in the student section, and give a prize to the high school that is best represented. high school students can give the crowd the energy it needs for these games.

Crowd for the 1/7 game against Weber State shouldn't be an issue because it is Junior Griz dance night - a few hundred little girls there to dance, with their parents and siblings packing the GA section - so 12/30 and 1/5 are key nights for the crowd. If you don't g to another game all year go to the UW-Mil game.

Crowd support at UW-Mil might also determine if UM gets televised for bracket buster - ESPN will be looking for a rowdy, packed house. If you don't g to another game all year go to the UW-Mil game.

Yeah, I think the season might hinge around tomorrow night's game. There would be so much momentum behind the team if they could win. We'll get about 5,000 at the UWM game if the sportswriters and readers pick up their hypenizing.

From the good buzz on griz basketball in the national press, I think it's safe to say that we'll be hosting ESPN in February. All they have to do is look at the ladies' opening round game in '04! It was a sellout and a wild crowd. I guarentee the Northern Iowas of the world could not compete in terms of attendance and atmosphere.

Northern Iowa is the #2 Mid Major in the country, drawing 6500+ per game, including a season high of 13,288 who witnessed UNI' win over #12 Iowa.

The Griz have been impressive to date, but they aren't yet in Northern Iowa's league in terms of success or attendance.

Amen - fans can do their part starting 12/30/2005. Anybody with GSA tickets who won't be at their game post their tickets here so the seats don't go to waste. Anybody who went to the Stanford game should go to this game - it will be better basketball, just need the fans again to make the atmosphere.

I know from first hand experience that the high school idea would work! I tried to get as many high schoolers in that student section as possible but all my friends were scared that they would get kicked out for some odd reason. Im trying to get everybody at my school excited about grizzly basketball but there isnt alot i can do....I assure you that i am tryin!

I'll bet he will listen, get your friends to e-mail too. I would take 500 of you and your high school buddies and the energy you guys have over 1000 old farts like me any day. Much better atmosphere when people are excited to be there.

Done, that is such a big game heading into big sky play! But first thing is first We must play well at Santa Clara and come out of there with a win.

I forgot about that UNI audicafetorium. Not fair!

...and let us know the results of that email...

Scotty,

I will float the idea by the Marketing Committee. The only concern may be with compliance issues. I will have our Marketing Director Christie Anderson report back. Thanks for thinking of us…
