Grizzly Fans

How can any fan, in good conscience, boo college players? Whether it is intended for the coaches or the players, the fact remains that young, amateur players are hearing their home fans boo them. Say what you will about how great Grizzly Fans are, but that is atrocious and inexcusable.

At least twice during the Sam Houston State game I heard booing followed by the announcers on TV saying, "Here come the boo birds again." One example is when the Grizz botched the field goal attempt after the long kickoff return by Heidelberger. I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming after the lost to NDSU that the Grizz fans weren't cheering their team either.

I'm sure the players will be relieved to hear those indiscriminate boos are only for the coaches - that ought to help them block them out.

Is it any wonder why Disney plays so well in practice when he's calm and relaxed but when he feels the pressure in games his performance suffers?

Chill out people - remember home is in Missoula - land of the relaxed . . .

The only booing I can remember were on a couple series when the Griz ran on first and second downs to set up about a 3rd and 10 both times. I can understand that kind of booing. I don't think anyone was booing the players themselves. The kind of people who would boo at the players wouldn't be the ones who took time to come to the game.

Yeah but how are the players supposed to know who is getting booed? If I was a player and the play didn't go how I wanted it to, I'd assume the booing was for me or other players. Not good. Just boo the officials and let everything else sort itself out. It's not like our boos are going to change anything, right? (even with the officials, for that matter)

Players know the reason. They're not stupid. They might even think of the booing as a favor to them since they can't complain to the coaches themselves.

Poor Drew Miller had to sit and listen to the boos, and calls for Edwards in the game.....then Edwards had to endure the calls for Neill along with boos. Now it seems that Disney will hear them also.......the difference is that we have nobody to back Disney up right now, and therefore nobody to yell to bring in......but when Ochs comes back...........

It is not nice, but it is part of the expectations that come with being a Starting QB at Quarterback U.

And the coaches at any level have to have thick skin cuz it is an absolute that they will face booing at one point or another. UM just has set a high standard.

He is right. I don't think that the players would think that the Griz fans boo too much. I am sure Cal Poly fans boo too. It happens in sports, everywhere. Don't make it seem like Griz fans are terrible and everywhere else the fans are wonderful.

They might just be kids, but people are paying a lot of money to watch these kids play football. And these kids know the pressure of coming to play football for a winning team especially Montana where the fans are very tough on players and coaches. These kids are competitors and if they can't take the pressure of the fans maybe they should give up their scholarship and find something else to do. I have a feeling most of the players put alot more pressure on themselves to play well than the fans ever do.

I agree with GoGriz completely. They know what they are getting into. You have to take the good and the bad in the same stride. The players know that they can't have the amazing 19,000 fan atmoshpere when they aree winning, and then have the fans just accept a loss or a poor effort. And regardless, I am pretty sure that the players know exactly who is getting booed in most situations, and this year, it is the coaches.

When the NDSU team ran onto the field there was a rather substantial chorus of boo's. My wife was sort of appalled at that display of poor sportsmanship. I launched in to this big explanation about everyone's spirits being high and they really didn't mean it. But the fact is the more I tried to explain it, the less I believed it.
IMHO it really was very poor taste, and does not reflect very well on the Grizzly fans.

I agree with it being bad to boo the visiting team when they come onto the field. That's really poor sportsmanship, in my opinion. Just ignore them. That, to me, says a lot more than booing for no reason.

Too bad the TV announcers didn't broadcast the fact that the North End Zone Crazies, and a bunch more Griz fans gave the Bison a standing "O" when they left the field at the end of the game.

Thats true, and as long as I have sat in the north endzone (I sit in the front row near the tunnel) it has been that way. The visting team does get booed which may be unfortunate, but unless they are really poor sports and have managed to piss of the entire north endzone, and especially if they win, people clap for them.

The last thing I can say about this topic is this:

COME TO AN SEC GAME SOMETIME!!!!!!!!

It will put Montana fans sportsmanship into a new light.

I personally miss the old Griz crowds that were a bit more raw and gritty. Not that they were poor sports.....but they weren't afraid to yell at the other team a bit...and tell Kramer that we would rip his spine out and spank him with it.

Griz games are more of a social event than Football game anymore.

Tailgating should be for BEFORE the game and AFTER the game. I think they should ban anyone from leaving the stadium. If you leave the stadium you can't get back in. No hand stamps.

You can picnick AFTER the game.

Then we have a crowd for the third period.
