Grizzlies clinch postseason berth with win over ISU
MISSOULA -- Montana clinched a berth in the Big Sky Conference men's basketball postseason tournament with a 76-40 thumping of Idaho State Monday night at Dahlberg Arena.
Point guard Will Cherry scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting and backcourt mate Kareem Jamar added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have now won six straight and 12 of their past 13 games.
Idaho State shot just 24 percent from the floor (14 of 57) and failed to put a player in double digits. Guards Kenny McGowan and Melvin Morgan each scored nine.
Idaho State (8-15, 6-5) came in having won four straight games, its longest winning streak since claiming five in a row during the 2006-07 season.
The Grizzlies, now 17-6 overall and 10-1 in the league, are tied with Weber State for the top spot in the Big Sky standings. UM's tournament berth is its 11th in a row, the longest active streak in the conference.
