Griz vs Badgers

Well, if you haven't heard the pundits saying Montana is more talented, I suggest turning off the Lifetime channel and watching a little ESPN.

As for recruits, I don't care that you got Ms. Alabama or whatever. But I do know this: Wisconsin heavily recruited a kid out of high school named "Selvig". Any ideas where he ended up?? (hint, it ain't wisconsin.....)

please quit making things up. according to selvig wisconsin called him once.

Q. Derek, one of the Wisconsin assistants said they recruited you a little bit. Can you tell me how much or how deep that relationship was? Did you ever consider Wisconsin as an option?

Derek Selvig: I remember getting a call, but nothing too serious. I had calls from Big Ten schools, but nothing serious.

We play extremely disciplined basketball. That makes it tough for less talented teams to close the gap

There are plenty of informed observers who do not believe Montana is less-talented.

Who? Where are these experts? Picking a team to pull an upset is not the same as declaring a team has more 'talent'. Logic check 101 time. You guys have a good team and have had a great year but step back for a second and think about what you are really implying. Do you have a better player or two ata given position? Sure you very well may. But we have a first team all-state guy from Illinois (Dukan), Mr. Basketball from Iowa (Uthoff), and the son of the #4 pick in the 92 NBA draft (Jackson), that never see the floor! Those are the guys on the end of our bench, how many Mr. Basketballs do you guys have redshirting?

Which pundits? Myron Medcalf the writer for our biggest rival who just said that he could see us losing? I still call BS. I've been watching plenty of ESPN. Picking a team to pull an upset is not the same as saying a team has more talent. It wouldn't be an upset if that were the case.

And yeah we recruited Selvig, and about 50 other kids in that class. Recruiting interest and a firm scholarship offer are two very different things.

That year we took a local PF and Mr. Basketball, Keaton Nankivil, who was a 4* prospect ranked #92 in the country, as well as PF Jon Leuer, a 4* guy ranked #82 in the country, who now plays for the Bucks. So no, you did not beat us out for Derek. He is talented no doubt, I remember watching his film and thinking he would be a good fit in the swing, but he never had serious interest from UW once we had a shot with guys higher on our list.

As for where you would compete in the B1G I don't think you guys have the height/girth to hold up for a whole season in the middle of the pack, but who knows. In a one game scenario I could definitely see you beating those teams. ***I see I misread your post about where in the conference. In your scenario yes I think your right on that the Griz could compete with those teams just fine.

Do you really want to start picking out the close scores you guys had against teams ranked in the 200+ range of the RPI? Not to mention the multiple losses.

Its 'bigDS RIP'. What is your point man? I'm certainly a homer, but I have tried to back up my posts with facts and analysis. But whatever, bye troll

Ummmm....wwwhhhhaaaaatttt???

To my knowledge I haven't said anything about where the GRIZ would finish in the big 10/11/12/39whateverthecurrentcountactuallyis conference, nor have I said how they would compete against teams within the conference.

I simply think --having seen both teams play -- that they're better than Wisconsin, particularly if they play a decent game of MONTANA basketball. You, on the other hand, have never seen the GRIZ play, but are absolutely convinced they can't be anywhere near as talented as a 4th place team in a "power" conference simply because they don't play in a "power" confernece.

It's all right though. We get that a lot from fans of big conferences. We're used to it. We just wish a few more of them would come back to the board and man-up and admit they were wrong after we take it to 'em.

Is bigdsrip changing anyone else's perspective of this amazing Badger fan base? Chillax dude! We happen to love our Grizzlies and want to see them win. What kind of fans would we be if weren't calling for a Griz victory? It's a 4-13 matchup, we get it. What's your point?

Go Griz!

that's all true, but i believe the problem is the nonsense and outright b.s. people are posting about our team. there's no need for that. the wisconsin fans have come over here to talk about the game and no one should expect them to agree with things that aren't true.

getting past that, I think we can definitely win this game. the wiscy fans and their players and their coaches know this. 4s beat 13s on average once a year. so right there we have a 25% chance to win. i think it's actually better than that, probably more like 33%. the game is on a neutral court, our players believe, the pressure is on wisconsin. if its close down the stretch they will be the ones that are nervous. on the other hand they have a lot going for them.

the game is only 21 hours away. :thumb:

most of the stuff i have been seeing griz fans posting is about right on par with what you said...what is all the outright BS? just curious...and there is not a person in wisc who would agree we have a 25% chance in this game

i don't see any of them arguing that yet. they've followed their team all year and know they aren't the kind of team that racks up blowouts every week. they're good, but they also allow teams to hang around. any time you do that you're susceptible to being knocked off if a team happens to get hot. like i said earlier, we'd play well in the bottom half of the big ten and those teams all gave wisconsin a run this year. wisconsin fans know that and in knowing that they know their beatable. i haven't heard any of them say they can't be beat by us or that it's an over the top longshot.

b.s. = saying selvig was heavily recruited by wisconsin. selvig said he got a call from them and several other big ten teams. big difference between a phone call and being seriously recruited. selvig didn't pick us over wisconsin.

Thank you for understanding. I've gotten sidetracked into just responding to claims from posters here, I didn't come on here to dismiss the Griz (and I haven't if you actually read my comments with out the Big conference snobbery filter that you have in your head). I've said it many times that Montana can win. Do I think it likely? No, but I'm not a fan of Montana so take it with a grain of salt. Most posters on here have been fine (cough-first 11-cough) and fun to talk to. I fully understand your optimism and would expect nothing else, but there is a difference between optimism and hyperbole. I have tried to address the hyperbole so we can talk in facts and with a rational backing other then 'we're fans and we're the bestest'.

I think my comments on the talent got away from me a bit. Thats because UW gets it from every fan base every year, be they MSU or Cal Poly, that UW isn't that talented and we should beat them if we play well. This bothers me because UW has been one of the top 10 programs in the country for 10 years now and yet we get none of the respect our on court success has earned. It gets old being this guy,

Huh. That's really interesting that it's BS that Wisconsin recruited Selvig. You should really probably inform the UW staff, because they're under the DISTINCT impression that they recruited Selvig:

Owens isn’t the only familiar face to Gard and Co. The Badgers recruited Selvig, the only Montana native on the Grizzlies’ roster.

But yeah, I'm sure you're right and the Wisc staff is wrong. After all, you've got such a great history of being correct on this board!!!

Getting excited for gametime! Just signed up to watch on TNT online since I"m going to be at work. Works out that it's over lunch! Here's to a good showing and some respect. GO GRIZ!!!

yadda yadda yadda..she said, he said..was recruited wasn't, Big10-BSC, all I know is that Griz team is damn good and full of heart --and I cannot wait for tip -off ..GO Griz! betting house they cover the 8 1/2 but o/u at 118? whew that is too low even for the s-l-o-w badger ball..GO Griz!

I am a Badger fan and have lurked here a few days and have a couple things to say
Some of the fans here are plain arrogant.

I agree with the one poster who gave the Grizzlies 33% shot at winning. That is about correct.

How can anyone really believe they have more talent than Wisconsin.

Wisconsin played at North Carolina and almost won

Wisconsin lost by 3 in overtime to Michigan St.

Wisconsin beat Ohio St.

What do you predict your score would be at North Carolina.

The big difference is when Wisconsin plays a big time team I hope to win, but do not declare to be better. I never once thought we were better than Ohio St. I thought we had a shot. And we played well and won.

Big difference. Could you win. Yes this is a down year for Wisconsin. Lost our best player to NBA and still have a 4 seed.

arrogant? because we support our team? arrogant? because we have watched your team and yes, we believe we have a better "team" than you...arrogant? because we aren't afraid of the big bad big10? arrogant? because we have a team that plays good D and in your face hoop instead of a slow down game to attempt to survive in a great conf..arrogant? you may beat the champs of the low BSC but your ball club will know they were in a game...no go"jump" or something, this isn't football..GO GRIZ
