Griz v. Weber Game Thread

The Griz were exposed in this game. Too many close wins against no-name opponents. Lack of inside game. While their season is a great one still, it is obvious that they lack the inside-outside game to compete against really good teams.

Griz had an off game, no need to panic and say they can't compete against really good teams. Remember the Griz beat Weber here earlier this year, and damn near beat South Dakota State earlier this year too.

You don't have to look back too far to see this type of thing has happened before... 2005-2006 for example. We got blown out by Boise State @ Boise to begin the season. We later got crushed by Idaho State @ISU. That year turned out just fine.

Last year we got killed by Oregon State, and lost @ Weber by 16. Season turned out just fine...

2009-2010 (The year we went to the tournament and lost by 5 to UNM) the Griz only scored 48 points against Northern Colorado @UNC in an 11 point loss. Many posters were about ready to jump off a bridge then too... Season turned out just fine.

Yeah this loss sucks, especially since it was a complete beatdown, but it was 1 game.

No, no, no! The sky is falling and the sooner you accept it, the better. ;)

I'm over it. Great game played by Weber. Can't wait for round 3, wherever it may be!

This is NOT a happy thread to encounter after three days away from the internet and other communication sources! Hope future connections from way afar bring cheerier news.

Everyone take a deep breath and back off the ledge. It will all be okay.

A conference loss is bound to happen to any team in any conference. Losing that game to the only legitimate competition at their home is nothing to panic over. The loss did not surprise me at all. A team has a few stinker games a year. It is near impossible to get through any conference unbeaten.

The 2 Weber State games were unusual in couple ways. Game 1, the GRIZ had an out of this world rare FT shooting display, that just does not happen often. Game 2, Weber State shoots lights out, and hit everything, contested or not. They could do no wrong offensively. It did not matter who they were playing in a game like that. As a team, they were in a zone, and never left it that night. The results spoke for themselves. Weber is a great team, but even great teams do not play that far above their average that often. The way the played this game, they could have competed with any team in the nation.

There is no way Weber State can play that well every game. A team is lucky to have a few outings like that every season. As for the GRIZ, the run they went on was amazing and something very rare in any conference. Every team is in a for a bad game or a few every year. The 2nd Weber State game was the worse case scenario. Weber State played as well as they could , and the GRIZ played about as bad as they could. That is the reason for the blowout.

GRIZ fans don't expect bad games like that very often from this team. The GRIZ only had 2 players show up for this game, Cherry and Ward. How often does that happen this year? Typical game is most the team showing up. Weber State fans enjoy the game you had that game, those games are few and far between. Hope you all don't expect that kind of game from them every game. It won't happen.

The fact is both teams are great this year. Both are set up to be great the next few years too (each loses 2 players). Barring no injuries or suspensions, I will be surprised if any other team plays for the BSC tournament championship, other than these 2 teams. Granted, I will be rooting for Weber State to lose in the tournament. I don't like how we match up against them physically.

I don't see the GRIZ or Weber State having another let down this season. BSC tournament championship will be a repeat of last year, a one loss GRIZ verses a 2 loss Weber State in Missoula. Yes I am confident of that, and I feel very sorry for ISU this weekend.

Go GRIZ!!!!

The problem, and what should make Montana fans nervous, is that it wasn't just that game, it's the way Weber State and Montana are playing every game this year in conference.

Weber State, in conference, is averaging 114 points every 100 possessions and giving up just 92 points every 100 possessions.

Montana, in conference, is averaging 111 points every 100 possessions and giving up 99 points every 100 possessions.

The bottom line is, after 15 conference games, Weber State is playing way more efficient basketball, and it's not even close. Their defense is really good.

I'm hoping for the following...
a. We're still trying to gel with Cherry only 14 games under his belt and that more efficient basketball is coming our way.
b. We win out conference play and get home-court advantage.
c. We pull out all the gimmicks in the Championship game to disrupt Weber's efficiency.

We will find out just how far behind UM is meeting real competition when they travel to Davidson. If they pull out a win, which is highly in doubt, they can regain a swagger that seems missing from this year's squad. Weber was shooting nearly 60% from the field...UM depends upon the 3 pt shot and it was well defended. Davidson is one of the best shooting and defensive teams in the South...UM has not been competitive in the South as far as I can remember. Should be interesting...

Go GRIZ!!!!

This Weber State team in their 16 conf games has avergaed 6 players with 5 points or more, 8 games with at least 7 players with 5 or more points. Against you guys we shot 58.2% for the game, tonight against MSU we shot 64.1%

Our game vs you guys wasnt even our best game.

Now I'm not saying that the next meeting, (if there is another) will be the same, but there's a reason Weber State is # 1 in the nation at FG% and 1 of only 3 teams in the nation shooting 50% or better.
