GRIZ/UW game thread

This may be for a seperate thread but would we be any worse off with a starting line up of:
Sharp
Selvig
Taylor
Johnson
McGillis

At least they consistently hustle, and Sharp/Selvig make us better in the paint offensively. Stockton is getting some minutes now too, and looking okay. All I know is Hasquet needs to wake up, and Qvale needs to play to his size.

Today, I am liking the likes of Stockton, Taylor, and Selvig much more. If there is a silver lining to this game, it is the play of those 3. Sharp, Johnson, and McGillis are struggling statistically but are working hard. Pick and roll with Stockton and Selvig has potential. Too bad Selvig did not take the open shot off a pefectly executed play by Stockton. As for Stockton, one thing is evident, he executes plays.

75 to 51, but 2nd half has really shown some solid signs for the future. Stauds shot the ball well too. If CET is gone for the year, I am sold on Stockton running the offense and taking care of the ball, with AJ and Taylor also getting some minutes there. I will not be surprised to see Stockton, Selvig, and Taylor gradually get more minutes.

Did I just hear right Tinkle just burned Ward's redshirt by playing him today!

Huh? If he played I must not have been paying attention, but thought I was.

Hummpf... I just checked out the Yahoo.com box score and they had Ward pickiing up a foul with 1:30 lleft. I am going to assume someone looked at the roster wrong when they entered it, and it was someone else.

I hope in postgame Tinkle gives Stockton some props. He certainly impressed me, I am guessing about 10 minutes of play. I hope he also mentions how much more work we need inside on offense.

Tinkle just said they will get Stockton more minutes and he does a good job. The GRIZ may just live or die with him at PG. Myself, that is what I wanted to hear regarding Stockton. Also he said we need to get nastier and meaner. I could not agree more.

GRIZ/CAT week starts again! GO GRIZ!

Think that we have some serious troubles in Grizville....sounds like desperation.
PSU's win over Gonzaga and this game today puts the two programs in perspective.

Tinkle also spoke of Sharp's toughness. I would like to see Sharp start and Qvale come off of the bench. I also think it is time to start Anthony at the 2 or 3 and go with a Stockton/Taylor combination at the point. Of course, much depends on whether CET returns. One thing for sure, we need to play post players that try to stay in the general vicinity of the post. I did not see the game, but it sure seems we are currently lacking in this respect.

I would not go as far saying "Trouble in GRIZNATION." From what I have seen of Portland Sate, they are by far the best team in the BSC. The whole conference is in trouble when it comes to PSU. However, PSU can be beat inside, which is our offensive weakness. If Tinkle is serious about getting more minutes for Stockton, that is good long term for the GRIZ. I think Stockton is ready to handle it. If CET returns and Stockton shares the PG minutes, our turnovers will be reduced drastically. To be honest, after the UW game, I am alot less concerned about PG.

However, I see no signs of our inside offense getting up to par anytime soon. I hope to see Selvig get more minutes, and Hasquet be forced to accept that role. If I see one of those things, I will be somewhat happy. If I see both those things, I will be very encouraged. Seriously, this season rides on inside offense.

Sharp works his ASS off inside. Qvale is trying hard, but for some reason not very effective this year on either side of the court. Selvig touches almost everything, but still needs alot more strength. Hasquet might as well have his position listed as Guard or SF. That is how he is playing.

I love Sharp. He is not the most gifted athlete but I would take his unselfishness and hard work any day. Start him.

why can't Tinkle get all of his players to work hard? Isn't that a coaches job? My guess is next year is his last year. Even the homers on this board will be screaming for his head when we finish sub-500 in the BSC and have 2 consecutive losing seasons. Tinkle's not a coach, evident by this team's pick up style basketball. Not fair to judge this with a loss against a much better UW team, but it has been evident against UTVS et.. and will continue through conference play.
O'Day, please start putting feelers out for a real coach in 2010-2011.

It's a case of too much sunshine being blowin up too many people's backside with zero results. With the exceptions of CSU, Duke, UW the Griz should not have lost as many as they did in the non-conference schedule. This team and program needs somebody that will get players to play hard and work their butt off to defend and rebound on every possession. When you get players to do that you always have a shot to compete and even win against tough teams or any team. This team does not compete consistanly enough to be above .500 by seasons end. I watched an open gym pick-up game this afternoon between 2 teams except one team didn't play like or view it as an open gym (UW).

O'Day won't Robo and you know he won't he'll let Tinkle play out the rest of his extension and look to make statements about how the programs GPA is doing so well even though they apparently have a current player in some academic hot H2O and so forth and so on. Bring back Don Read to be AD or make Robin Selvig AD he get things going in the right direction.
