Griz the team to beat in the BSC?

I know we haven't seen what any of the other teams in the conference have but with what we saw Saturday the Griz might be the team to beat this year...

Too early to tell. Definitely a better contender than I had originally anticipated best I could tell. I still think MSU is going to have big issues on defense. Doesn't sound like ISU is doing as well in fall camp. Anyone's guess with West leading EWU. Cal Poly we will know next week. Sounds like Stitt settles for nothing less than perfection and 110% effort from the kids. I really think we need to (and will) get MUCH better by mid season.

Ditto on the "too early." The Griz (and us fans) were sky-high for the Bison game. The guys made some fantastic 4th-down conversions to keep drives alive. Without those, this game would not look so pretty. Question is: Can they maintain that level of intensity, or even something like it, in games down the road? I suspect they can, but we just don't know yet.

We did just paint a big red target on our backs, but fortunately that always means you are doing something right. Based on what we saw.....I don't see any defenses in the big sky keeping us under 30, except maybe North Dakota. The defense looked great yesterday IMO, NDSU was maybe getting 50% of the success on the ground that they enjoyed last year.

Let's see how we do against CP and Liberty, if we get those two I think we are really a tough team.

CP will be tough, but the Griz can probably manage a win at home. Liberty will be the real test. I know everything is new and different from the past -- coach, system, players, etc. But how many Griz teams have we seen -- even under Hauck -- that were essentially unbeatable at home, but struggled or laid an egg on the road? No telling until it happens.

Personally, I think CP is the team for the Griz to beat next week. That will be a very tough game and a win is not assured. While it appears UM's offense has progressed faster than I thought it would, and the o-line has progressed more than I feared it would, beating CP isn't any easier now that it was before the NDSU game, in my view. Hopefully, Gregorak has a better scheme to slow CP's offense down.

I am really impressed and I even had my maroon glasses on all of last week. But wow! Going 80 yards in 16 plays with a minute and a half left to score the winning TD is just fantastic.
But more than that, how many times did our running game go straight at the center of the D-Line of the Bison? Who would ever do that before yesterday? Sure it was because the LBs were dropping back a bit, but it sure as heck worked, and even when it didn't, it reminded the Bison D that they had to keep it honest.
The Game also answered the question of which is more important: TOP or plays. Obviously, running 92 plays for a total of more than twice what the Bison allowed as an average last year shows that you can keep the ball all you want, but if we have a 90 seconds left, better be up by more than 8 points.
Only disappointment has to be goal line offense. Brilliant last play, but not sure everyone won't be prepared when number 37 comes in as a tight end.

But if Stitt proved nothing else -- like it needed to be proved -- he showed that there's pretty much nothing he won't try. And, given his past history, he probably already has three-four-five other things that can be run off that formation.

They're a team to reckon with, we'll see the next 3 games if they're the team to beat.

Very true, we will find out real soon if we can travel.

Way, way to early to tell. I am encouraged by the offensive production - especially when you consider it was the first game of the season. How good was NDSU's defense? Better than MSU's for sure, but Who knows for the rest of the conference. I know one thing - the Griz have as much talent at key positions than they have ever had. The one glaring weakness I felt was running back. The defense closed fast on our runs. Too fast and turn the damn ball forward and power for a couple of extra yards. JG needs to turn upfield more. Enough with the dancing. Overall damn impressive for new coach, system, QB and playing número uno. The rest of the BSC just got a wake up call.

We will be able to tell somewhat as NDSU's OOC is Montana, Weber State, North Dakota. If he Bison destroy them we know what to expect from those two plus, maybe UNC.
