Granted it was TECH. Tinkle was very happy with 40 minutes of hard play. The positives, alot of assists, few turnovers, Matt Martin willing to come off the bench. Martin and Staudacher shooting well from 3. Vanderjagt and Qvale combining for 3 blocks in 21 minutes. That is 5-6 Blocks over 40 minutes, combined for 8 rebounds, 15-16 over 40. (mentioned the projections just show how good we may look defensively in the middle next year).

I believe the GRIZ gained alot from this game. (1) confidence (2) execution (3) team unity (4) offensive continuity with good balance of inside outside (5)Rundles and Elgin Taylor both stepping it up in distributing the ball, and putting teammates 1st.

My hope is Tinkle will continue to experiment with minutes for Qvale and Vanderjagt. Granted, Vanderjagt is still getting into game shape, but these 2 can be a very productive TRUE Center combination for us. Which I hope by the end of the year these 2 combine for 25 to 30 minutes a game. To win the BSC we necessarily do not need big minutes from these guys. But if we want to be successful long term and maybe even get an upset or 2 we will need these 2 to be ready and productive.

Now lets go kick some cat ASS!!!!!!!! :thumb:

I guess it served it's purpose, and was probably good timing to get them a win before playing the kitties. I see msu played down as well, playing Evergreen and Great Falls prior to taking on cellar dweller Oregon State, which the cats should win easily.

It was a thriller  . The Griz did do a great job of maintaining their intensity and effectiveness as the game got increasingly more lopsided. Staudacher played very well on defense, shot well and did his normal fine passing. Mt. Tech was awful. I think they had 19 turnovers at the half. Staudacher also had a bunch of steals. The Griz guards were really pressuring and it paid off. For much of the first half, Hasquet was outscoring and outrebounding the entire Tech team. It gets serious starting Saturday night. :twocents:

Vanderjagt getting only 7 minutes in a wipe out from the get go. Graves getting only 5 minutes in wipe out from the get go.

If that is all Tinkle will give these two in a total wipe, there is absolutely no chance in hell that either one of these guys will get more than 15 minutes of playing time this year.

Now that they earned some confidence in playing well against a NAIA team, now I would like to see them have confidence they can beat a good division 1 team. MSU will just have to do for providing that kind of test for the Griz.

You also need to keep in mind that those two are your 9-10 players. If you look at the box score the minutes are spread out pretty good. Hasquet, Strait, Martin, Stads, CET, played about 20 mins each, with Cam getting 33, and Qvale and Sharp getting 14 each. There are only so many minutes and that is pretty much the rotation. The best part of the game is they didn't play to the level of the competition, which happens a lot in these bodybag games.

Dave V. is an experiment. There is a reason he only played about 5 minutes in a 55 point blowout to a NAIA team. Sure he may have been hurt in the off season and is still getting back into game shape but come on people he looks so out of place on the court. Qwale as a true freshman has shown me more basketball talent than Dave has in the time he has been here.

DV and Graves are the 10-11 on the roster and it shows, I think Graves deserves a bit more time as he has shown glimpses of being a good defensive player.

Greg Spurgetis on the other hand has really impressed me as a player how does not get many minutes. He hustles each and everytime he is on the court. In some ways he reminds me a little like Criswell. Hardnosed, and willing to do what it takes. Granted he does not have the talent Criswell ever had he still is someone you can cheer for when he gets in the game.

I say stick with the top 8 guys and ride them as much as you can.

...... Why though, did Rundles need to play 33 Minutes!? That has to be close to season high for him!

yo, mslacat, congrats on the oregon state win. i think most of us are too much into our rivalry to admit that a win like that helps the entire conference, raises all boats.

we all knew huse was a good coach, but he seems to have also had two strokes of good fortune. first, mbunga was better than anyone imagined. and second, bobby howard was ready to step in as a true freshman from a montana high school and have an immediate impact on the college game. confess: aren't you pleasantly surprise by both developments?

I like Spurgetis and his desire, but after watching him play on the CA trip, I think he would have done himself a favor going to the Frontier Conf. His man went by him like Greg was a statue at UOP. I don't mean to be mean in the least, but he is not a D1 player.
