griz steals

The questions is this; when someone says Montana is getting a steal is it an endorsement of the player or a put down on the program? Maybe 75 percent compliment to the player and 25 put down to the program? After all, Woods sounds great but it's not like he had Pac-10 offers on the table. To be surprised is to have low expectations about what Tinkle, UM, and Missoula can offer a potential player/student.

I think you could classify it as both. But the Guy's at Fullcourtpress have been watching basketball talent for 10 years or so, and have a pretty good feeling for what level of players typically go to which program. You also have to remember that most West coast observers look at the Big Sky as the cellar dweller conference of the west coast. Woods did get some looks from larger conference but the thing that most schools were concerned about was his height for a very athletic power forward. As I understand it a lot of schools asked him to wait until spring to sign, and in the end he went with a program that showed a strong interest and that he really liked the school.

The gist of what I have heard about Woods is that he has really surprised a lot folks this spring with his improved range. Fullcourtpress seems to think that he has developed a suitable 3 point shot my other source feels only comfortable out to about 15 feet. Both though agree that he has made tremendous progress with his ability to play on the perimeter.

I hate to say this but think Derek Pope, I think only GB1 will get that reference.
