GRIZ search for post help

Wow, I think we should retitle this thread. Loved when the GRIZ would run the Dlouhyoop.

As for the subject of the thread, Who will they land in the paint in the offseason? I hope he is a shotblocking and rebounding big.

Never know, but Wayne does not like off the court problems. He did not help himself this year in that regard.
 
We don't have to have a 6-9 or 6-10 guy. We need a rebounder, period. Leading rebounder in the Big 12 was 6-6 Melvin Ejim from Iowa State. Averaged 9 boards a game or something like that. In the Big Sky that number would be 12 :lol: . Let hope for a find like that.

Exactly. Who was the last Griz (before BQ) who not only could, but did routinely jump straight up and dunk from under the basket? Kevin Kearney? And he was only 6-6 or so. We need a big that is also an athlete.

I was in Bozeman watching the BSC tourney when Dan "Trammeled" the cats with his game winning thunder slam. I was with my brother (a cat fan) and the crowd soiled their jeans (so to speak). It was the BB equivalent of the 1997 football game when all cat fans went from pure joy one minute to sheer agony the next. A beautiful moment for this Griz fan!
 
Is there anybody in Kalispell that can change Edwards mind on Gonzaga? Big miss out there for the Griz.
 
No miss on Edwards. Kid took three shots (!!!) against Hellgate in the biggest game he ever played in (state semi-final against a team Glacier beat by 30+ two weeks before). I have some ties to Hellgate and am damn proud of how they played at State, but Edwards was a big time no show in that game and just can't see him being a factor at a Division 1 program. More power to him if he does, but in my opinion Griz already have a better 7 footer in Andy Martin.

I believe the Gonzaga plans are no more. However, I agree that we don't need another big project. I also agree that Andy Martin has much greater potential. The next signing period begins April 17 according to the NCAA website.
 
Wow things are still really quiet with recruiting. Google searched for 2013 Montana Basketball recruits, and no updates on any big men anywhere. Then again, I have only went through the 1st page so far.

As for Edwards, he has not shown enough for the GRIZ to offer him a scholarship. I would have him earn it as a walk on. From what I hear, his work ethic is questionable. Only schools with C depth should offer him a scholarship and give him a RS year to develop. The GRIZ are not in position to offer more than a walk on. He needs to bust his ass, show commitment, and attitude. I believe someone will take a shot at him though.

I've looked as well. Looked at that JC site also. We need a banger! Get us 6 garbage points but 8-10 boards a night.
 
I have been told that the Griz are recruiting a big out of Australia hard. Kerry Rupp has contacts there. Unfortunately Pac-12 schools are also eyeing this kid.

The Griz were only at twelve scholarship players last season. It sounds like three are available plus any that might be freed up by a player going off of scholarship or leaving.

It starts with recruiting. Tinkle has signed two promising high school recruits in point guard Mario Dunn Jr., of Salesian High School in Richmond, Calif., and sweet shooting guard Brandon Gfeller of Colfax, Wash. He has one scholarship to give and is looking high and low for a big man.

“We have to get a big,” Tinkle said. “Now (Eric Hutchison) will be better and so will Andy (Martin) by next year, but we have to get somebody we can throw it to in there and then work around. That could’ve really helped us against zones. We have to have that presence in there offensively. We need someone who can score, defend and rebound for us. This year we rebounded by committee; I want to be a dominating rebounding team.”

His twisting corkscrew dunk off of a lob is still the greatest dunk I've seen in live action & that's saying a lot because I've seen quite a few in my days as a Griz fan.
 
I think you guys are wrong on Edwards and if Gonzaga were to drop its offer (which it isn't), Montana would be all over him. They wouldn't have offered him if they weren't interested. You can't just look at production, you have to look at the skill set, upside, and his ability to fill a need.

Edwards isn't a productively dominant player, but he has a ton of upside, good feet, and touch. Fact is though, he is a valuable prospect not only because he has 7'+ height, but because of his bulk. There are very few 7 footers out there that have his body type and style as a traditional center. This will make him valuable right away as a defensive and rebounding presence and it's much easier to develop a player that might be over-sized than it is a bean pole. I think he will be an important role player for the bulldogs with the potential to be a solid starter for them in a couple of years.
