I hate to tease, so I will not wait too long to post the info I am eluding to later today. but answer me this.

Given what you/we know about the returning athletes what position(s) do you think would be a priority for the Griz 1-2 scholarships they have to offer this spring. What would think would be the least priority?
'
I have a kid's name who is seriously looking at the Griz, and who has been offered by Tinkle.

Tell me it's the 'shroom eater wanting to transfer into the rehab program here.
Like my lovely bride , I wish for 3 more inches.......
Big time D 1 size with speed, at every postion. Brian Ellis with 3 more inches. Gus Chase with 3 more inches. Cam with 3 more inches. ....
Austin with a couple...

So mslacat who is this rumored recruit? When are you going to tell us kind sir?
Oh yeah thanks for all the good info you provide on hoops :thumb:

It appears the Griz have offered and are very much in the running for 6-foot-10, 235lbs power forward, Brian Freeman from Clackamas Community College, a double double scorer in rebounding. Just last week end he had 36-point, 18-rebound performance in the semifinals of the conference tourney. He is being recruited by Hawaii, Boise State, Montana, Montana State, Portland, Portland State, San Jose State, San Diego, Eastern Washington and Wyoming. With more colleges calling. He has become the "hot property" of the spring recruiting period. Montana and Hawaii are the leader right now. Hawaii has had a pipe line into Clackamas the last 6 or so years, and has strong record of producing big men for the D-1 ranks.

I was surprised that the Griz would be looking to sign a jc Big man with the back log of big men on the team and two more big time big men joining the team next year, in Selvig and Qvale.

We needed him this year and although I have zero coaching experience IMHO we should have recognized this prior to the season. Did we have any room on the roster last summer?

Looks like he would fit right in as the other new recruits would probaby redshirt.

a bona finde center would make us better at every position because everybody else could move down a slot to their more natural positions--strait to four, hasquet to three, swift to two. if graves can play the point, it would make us two deep at every position on the court. if we play qvale and selvig, they'd be able to break in gradually, but be in a position to give us quality minutes come the playoffs. i continue to feel that just about everybody on this year's team except rundles and ellis was playing away from their best position.

agreed... someone fatten dave up... but rundles best position is probably the 1.

Just like to add , if your looking for Junior College players, look in the Montana area. Miles City player Greg Hire, a 6'7 player from Perth, Australia, has stats of 16 and 11 and ranked in the top 20 in the Nation for rebounding. He also was selected All Region First Team and All Conference Team so that's a player they should look at! Jake Rios (6'2) from that team is also a great player and a great shooter who also got All Conference Award, he averaged 16 points and averaged 45 % from the 3. Dawson Community College also has a freshmen Jay Walker (6'5), extremely talented athlete also being named in the All Conference Team. Those are some players that they should be looking at

Has anyone else heard anything about the Griz trying to get one of the Lebsock kids from Frenchtown to walk on in basketball? I heard that this weekend, and it kind of surprised me.

Anyway, didn't want to waste a new thread on this so I am putting it here. Did anyone here watch any recruits on the state tourneys? I checked out Selvig when they played Browning. I felt he has a pretty good upside in that he can handle to ball outside the paint. He often carried the ball up the court and took a couple of three shots. Reminded me of a Dirk N. type player with his size...But I will say he was probably the fourth best player on the court that game. D.J. Fish took the ball at him successfully quite a few times and really owned that game. The other two in front of him were his teammates, can't recall just who, but think #44, the blonde kid, and then #24? Think that was his number, but he really could score down low for his size. He was very stout. Anyway, that's my input.

I watched the State C tourney in Great Falls and there were a couple of kids that jumped out at me. The first was A.J. Longsoldier, Tournament MVP of champion Hays-Lodgepole. He's a legitimate 6'5" and only a sophomore. He can do it all, shoot, pass, leap. Everytime a team tried to make a run at Hays he stepped up and hit a deep three or made a highlight reel play. He also scored 48 at the Native American Classic in Great Falls this weekend, he performance won him MVP and he also took home the slam dunk crown.
The other kid that stood out to me was Corbin Person of Big Sandy. He's listed at 6'3" but at the tournament he's probably very close to 6'5 or 6'6 and he's only a freshman. He did it all at the tournament. He's skinny but has the frame to add on weight and once again he was only a freshman. Didn't have the range of a Longsoldier but can shoot the three and was more effective in the post.
