Griz Hangover

Well-known member
Checked with Cliff Clavin...It's a little known fact that when teams have played the Griz in 2016 their combined record the following week is 1-4. SF(PA) L to Tow, UNI L to EWU, CP L to ND, MVSU L to ALST, and SUU W over UC Davis.

These are biased stats confirmed just before Beer-Thirty, they should be good.

According to Cliff you would be right in 2016 this has been the case 100% of the time. CP L to ND pretty solid numbers.

I've always believed that the Griz Hangover was in effect only after a team beat the Griz.

That would be the LDS hangover version, in that it doesn't happen often.

Here's a break down of the win/loss stats of every team to beat us since 1996 in their following game.
*next game was a playoff game.
**next game was played the following year.
***a D-1A opponent.

2016 0-1 L-CP
2015 2-3 W-Web St, NDSU* L-CP, Lib, PSU
2014 4-1 W-Wyo***, NDSU, EWUx2* L-CP
2013 1-2 W-EWU L-NAU, Co Car*
2012 3-3 W-NAU, EWU, MSU* L-App St, SUU, UND
2011 1-2 W-Tenn*** L-Sac St, SHS*
2010 1-3 L-CP, EWU, Web St, MSU*
2009 0-1 L-Vill**
2008 2-0 W-Web St, Rich**
2007 0-1 L-Wof*
2006 1-1 W-Iowa*** L-Mass*
2005 2-2 W-Ore***, MSU** L-EWU, CP*
2004 3-0 W-SHS, PSU, JMU**
2003 0-4 L-NDSU, ISU, MSU*, W Ill*
2002 1-2 W-McN St* L-EWU**, MSU*
2001 0-1 L-Haw***
2000 2-0 W-Hof, GSU**
1999 1-2 W-YSU* L-PSU, Ida***
1998 2-2 W-Web St, W Ill* L-SUU, Cal St Nor
1997 3-1 W-Wyo***, EWU, McN St* L-NAU
1996 0-1 L-Mar**(as a D-1A school)

29-33 overall.
24-31 against non D1-A schools.
7-9 following game was a playoff game.
4-3 following game was the next season.
12-20 in regular season games vs non D1-A.

Overall the record isn't as impresive as I thought it would be when I first started this. The 12-20 record may be a bit of cherry picking but it is the most telling stat on your average Saturday game.

Bamma, I love your work man. One of the best posters
I have a research question, if you care and are interested.
I got in are argument with a big mouth at the local watering hole after a few pops the other night and here was the issue: which former Griz earned the most total money in NFL contracts? I said Tru; he said Carpenter. Any idea?

Tru and you are the winner, thanks largely to his $13,952,000 pay check for this year. The totals are $17,826,929 to $14,002,500.
