Griz fans need not worry about the Jacks

they can't win on the road -- in fact, they're horrible. So forget that defeat up in Flagstaff, take care of business, and you probably won't face them again this season.

Not sure what team I watched at the Dee Center tonight.

and is it just me or is the Big Sky having a down year. Usually by now there's one or two teams that stand out. But with only a few weeks left in the regular season, I can't see a frontrunner. And no, I'm not sold on N. Colorado.

The Griz may really regret getting swept last week. Win one of those and you not only have the extra game, but you have the tiebreaker over UNC. As it stands now, the Griz pretty much win out.

But no, I actually think the BSC is much better and deeper at the top of the conference than usual. The bottom 3 or 4 teams are dragging the conference down, but the top 4 teams are very good. Look at UM's RPI and some of the teams they're ahead of: Indiana, Oklahoma, UMASS, Virginia, Stanford, Oregon, Iowa, Utah, Mississippi State. That doesn't sound weak.

The BSC's problem is the bottom half of the conference.

I've never put a lot of faith in those polls. For the smaller conferences I always look at a team's away record. That's a great indicator of a team's character and toughness -- look at the top four BS records away from home. They're awful to mediocre at best. In fact, Montana has the best away record of any team in the Big Sky, and they're 6-6.

Big Sky fans need to accept the fact that this is a Mid-Major conference, which will never compete with the big boys. A single win in the NCAA tournament is a big deal for a Big Sky team.

The RPI is not a poll.

And I stand by what I said. The basketball at the top level of the BSC is better than usual. It's teams like Sac (who has an RPI 10th from last in the country) that kills the BSC. Yes, most teams have struggled on the road. But as Growler says, the BSC is and always will be a low mid-major. That's no different than normal. What IS different is that the league has a few marquee road wins (think UM over UCLA).

agreed, hence why I throw out computer polls and just focus on away records to determine which team is best.

and by the way, Butler is in a mid-major conference and almost won the whole thing. Not that I expect that from us, but it might be cool to see a Big Sky team in the Sweet 16 some year.

I think this focus on road records is faulty. For example, UNC's 4-8 away record includes losses at Arizona, Illinois and Colorado State, three teams that will likely get at-large bids to the tournament and clearly have more talent than the Bears. UNC's conference road record is 4-2, which is quite respectable if you ask me. Basically what I'm saying is, if you just look at away records for small conference teams, you should also consider what (if any) top-tier opponents they played in their road schedule.

it's not meant to be an exact science, gobears, just a good indicator. And for every Arizona and Illinois UNC lost to, they also got beat by teams like Louisiana Monroe and Denver. But let's not do a team by team away schedule rundown -- again, that's not what it's about.

Even I was amazed at the final score with WSU/NAU. No way did I think Weber would win by 27, now, if Weber can take this hot 4 game win streak and do something with it on the road.

Weber is playing serious basketball.

But 3 of the final 5 BSC and 5 of final 7 total games on the road after a cushy 4 game home stand. Let's see how they fare as road warriors.

Yep and the road in the BSC hasnt been too friendly for us this year, all 3 of our road games are going to be tough, and it starts at EWU this Saturday.

Weber is playing good ball, they share the ball and we are making our 3 point shots, Scott Bamforth hit 7 3's tonight as a team they hit 12 of 21 (57.1%) Scott had 27 points, Bullinger had 18 and Hughey had 13. Weber is playing great team ball right now.

THe only bad thing about the game was the 5,310 attendance
