I had been to all 6 NC games before the App State game in 2009. I hadn't signed up for a charter to Chattanooga because I figured I had been to enough National Championship games. Then the App State game!!! By the time that game was over, I thought I just had to go, but the charters were booked or too expensive. I called my Dad the next day--he was 87--and asked what he thought about driving to Chattanooga for the game. "May as well; got nothing else to do" was his response. We drove from Missoula to Livingston to his house, and made the drive from there to Chattanooga in 2 days. Absolutely one of my favorite memories of him. He was a huge Griz fan, even though he hadn't been a student here (he went to Northwestern). His sister was a UM student in the 1930's when he was in high school. He would come over from Big Timber to watch Griz games. Born in Big Timber, Bobby Hauck could do no wrong in his eyes. He's the one who taught me the words to the Griz fight song--after I graduated from UM without ever learning them--because he knew all the Big Ten fight songs, and of course the Griz fight song. He would put up a Griz flag outside his house in Livingston, Griz bumper stickers on his car, and would proudly wear his Griz gear around Livingston. Even in his 90's, he would drive from Livingston to Missoula to watch a Griz game, and then drive back to Livingston after the game, despite my suggestions that he was welcome to spend the night. He just had to get back home because he had too much to do. What a guy. And what fond father/son memories built around the Griz.
