Griz @ EWU Game Thread

looks like Stuckey will be 1-3 VS the Griz, he finally gets his FIRST FOUL with less than a minute to go. I wonder if the refs have any idea who the BSC MVP was.

Martin disappeared in the second half, then the fouls down the stretch killed us. Oh well, a road sweep would have been nice, but had you told me Thursday we would get a split after last weeks games, I would take it in a heartbeat.

Time to get Martin some 3 looks.

I think he made 1 shot the second half. At least he is showing some signs he is out of the slump. Tinks stuck with him which helps the confidence.

If we tie this up I will have to have some beer delivered. :drinking:

I dont have enough for OT

Finally got back on here. Typical UM/EWU game. Now we need to get Sac State. What a rough 3 game stretch to start the season out. I hope the officiating is not this tight every game as the 1st 2 games. Good game EWU, see you in Missoula soon.

I think that was a typpical BSC game this season. You coul dtell in the post game interview Tinks was not pleased with the officiating in the second half, but he would get suspended if he said more. That being said, you have to expect you are not going to get the breaks on the road and play through it, not turn it over at crucial times, and make the few free throws you get. The Griz had a decent weekend, would have been nice to get a sweep. Weber State is in the driver seat, for the week anyway, UM, Sac, and msu have won road breakthrough.

Either Stuckey is not hurt as bad as EWU would like everyone to think, or their coach needs his head examined for playing him 40 minutes. If that kid develops back problems before the end of the year I am going to repeat this thread. He owes it to Stuckey to make sure his back isn't going to get worse with those minutes. One thing, the Refs don't let anyone bump him so maybe the strategy is good.

I agree the officiating sucked. Probably more for you guys than us.

But I think you have a solid team and will be there at the end.

We'll have to play far better than we did tonight in order to even hang with you in Missoula.

Good luck until then.

I goota agree with you Kalm. I think the league is going to be a dogfight every night. If a team isn't ready to play (EWU against msu) then they can get beat. The winner of the BSC could have 4-5 losses this season. I don't think anyone will run away with it. Weber State barely gets past Northern Colorado who is picked to finihs last, then makes the trip to Flagstaff and beats to league favorite. Good luck to you guys, except when you come to Missoula. Remember to take care of msu at their house.

I was glad to hear Tinkle say after the game that the players think the team chemistry is great right now. Chavez is out due to academica issues. That may expalin why Tinks wasn't giving him more minutes, as he knew he wouldn't have him for a stretch. Once again, the coaches know more than the fans who second guess their every move.

The game may have been won on the free throw line. Another big diiference IMO was the better defensive play of the Eagles in the second half. I don't think Martin scored in the second after being on fire in the 1st.

That, plus 14 points off the bench for Montana compared to 35 points for Eastern. Yeah, Stuckey had 28 and will always get his points, but I thought that's what the big difference was.

I heard that last year too and NAU almost swept the conference. Aren't they pretty good again?

They are, but they just lost a home game to Weber who barely beat cellar dwellar NoCo. I know the comparison of games is not an exact science, but you wouldn't think NAU would lose at home, especially to a Weber team that had to go from Greeley to Flagstaff and the 7200' elevation. If they run the table, more power to them.

I just returned from EWU game. The good news was that the
Griz left it all on the floor. The zebras mugged us good. As good
as Stuckey is you can probably add 5-10 pts for him at home-
all he has to do is drive and a foul will be called.
Coaches did a credible job-they good burned he last 3 min of
first half by leaving a subpar group on the floor. Stu Mayes was
great-he should play 2/3 of each game. Griz will win in Missoula
where refs don't drive a red EWU car.

You're talking about a guy that scored 44 points against NAU in Flagstaff last year. Whether he gets his points at the foul line or elsewhere, he's going to get his points, period. As far as the officiating goes, there were a lot of bad calls made both ways - I don't think you can blame it all on the officiating - my guess is that Montana gets equally as many calls for them at home. Griz shot a lot lower FG% in the second half, and EWU finally started playing a little defense. I'm not sure you can really say that the officiating is to blame for UM losing.

One EWU fan is honest about it anyway.
