Griz coaches with most recruits in the NFL

**Originally wrote in 2014. Made some new additions with the few new players that have made the league.**

**Side note(true reason for updating)
After sending a player to the league for 10 straight years from ‘07 to ‘16 and 19 players total in that span, we have gone two years in a row now without a new face in the NFL.**

I was recently challenged to research the Griz coach with the most recruits to make it to the NFL. Every one knows Bobby is the obvious choice but it is intresting to see how all the other coaches compare. I didn't count players that only made the practice squad or had try outs. Only people that actually made a 53 man roster or in McSurdy's case, made the injured reserve list. He still got paid.

Some of the players I had to make educated guesses or all out guesses if I wasn't sure if they redshirted or if they came in during coaching changes. The players with an * are the ones I'm unsure on. For the most part I think it's pretty accurate though.

This is a list of each coach and the kids they recruited that made it to the NFL.

Here's a break down of our pro players by the year they made it to the NFL. It dosnt count the 1st year they made a practice squad. For instance Colt made the Viqueens practice squad in '09 but made Philly's roster in '10.

Some intresting notes. We are currently on an 8 year run of having at least one new player make it to the NFL. In the last 20 years since '95, we have missed out only five times in someone making it to the NFL. It's also intresting to see our success in the 20's and 30's with sending 15 people from 1920 to 1939 including three in '38. Of course from 1940 to 1970 we only sent three people.

Was Biermann a Hauck recruit? Hauck started in '03, which I believe was Biermann's first year, no?

DB Jeff Shoate '03* was recruited by Dennehy, transferred to San Diego State

I believe Dave Dickenson spent one year with the San Diego Chargers

I wasn't sure at first but according to his surprisingly lengthy Wikipedia page, he played as a true Fr in 2004 and didn't miss a year after that.

didn't schillinger graduate a year after anderson? also, i don't think sambrano has played in a regular season game. dan moore definitely didn't. if you are counting just going to camp, watkins should be on the list (jets). so should crebo (bills), and snyder (i seem to remember some butt kissing bet between greenie and sunny about that one). also, lisowski hung around for a while on the seahawks preseason roster.

Yes. Also every single player he listed under both Pflugrad and Delaney were Hauck recruits. He also didn't list Kistler and Poehls, who are Pflu recruits.

Schillinger graduated in 2009 and Colt in 2008 but colt spent all of 2009 on the Viqueens practice roster. In 2010 Philly scooped him up and he became a special teams standout. Moore(Colts) and Sambrano(Colts) are in the same boat as McSurdy(Cowboys) in that the were placer on their respective teams IR which is technically making a roster. You get paid alot more then the practice squad.

That was the second list of which coaches the kids played for. Pflugrad isn't even on the 1st list of which kids the coaches recruited.

Also Kistler and Poehls have only made practice squads and are not on rosters yet.

Unfortunately, very true. We're starting to see more of it from our next Arizona product at RB in Counts. Mabey something's in the water there, or the lack of water. Lets hope our newest Arizona RB, Favors dosnt have that injury trait too.

Wayne Becker Chicago Bears mid 60's ?

Thought I’d bump this after the sudden decline in Montana’s on NFL rosters.

Since 1965, Montana has had at least one player on an NFL roster and since ‘74 we’ve had at least two except for ‘06 when Justin Green was the only Montanan in the league. After that was when we’ve reached our hay day though jumping up to 5 in ‘07 and 10 in ‘10 and a high of 11 in ‘12. Unfortunately though after having 9 just two years ago in ‘16, we’re now down to two, only one more the the bobkittens.
