GRIZ/Cats threads

I know McGillis is not a 4, but that could explain part of the reason he is at 4. For some reason just never thought of him as slow. As for Stauds, never have thought of him as quick. If anything, just below average foot speed.

I have to take your word for it though, being seeing the players in person is much better than the internet feed. I will pay more attention to these things when UNC hosts the GRIZ. Then again, our style works, as long as we are hitting our shots. Hard to blame the coaches for that.

I guess I am just frustrated, and feel we are better than we are playing.

I guess I was comparing them to Eric Rush and Bynum speed and may not be fair. I think we actually can win every night with Stauds and McGillis but may have to mix it up some.
Maybe TInks was planning on Thurmon Woods picking up some time at the 2 or playing two 2's with him.
The departure of Woods so late in the summer and us not being able to replace him with a transfer JC 4 may be giving us fits now.
One last comment from me..my wife asked me last night why Tinks didn't put ROPER in to hit some 3's?
Go Griz

MGR- check this out...he's for real. I don't like the way they call him the "uncommitted swingman" and neglect to mention his commitment to Montana. Cross your fingers and hope Kareem brings a buddy with him. HE WILL LOVE MONTANA and the fans. By the way, when can he start classes?

Stauds and McGillis are deathly slow compared to other D-1 teams. They get beat in man .

This statement is absolutely not true. Both Staudacher and McGillis are good defenders. They don't get beat often in man coverage. Jeez, their defense/toughness is one of the reasons they start and get the playing time they do. McGillis is not bad on the drive either. Staudacher's shooting more than makes up for his inability to drive.

McGillis starts at the 4, because Selvig was hurt at the beginning of the season, Mathias is a frosh, and Stauds, Taylor, Young, AJ and Cherry deserve to be on the court somewhere (and Stockton is also a good player).

Great W for MSU. I have questioned in the past and still am, why do we insist on being such a 1/2 court team? Our personnel is more suited for a faster paced game, yet every game we see the same ineffective offense and struggles.

Damnit, just try switching it up now and then. Take advantage of our shot blockers in Qvale and Selvig by trapping or having our guards and forward apply more pressure! Seriously, when a team struggles offensively, strategy is to create offense through defense. This really upsets me to see other teams be the aggressors with us. At the very least unchain Cherry every game defensively.

Also we have the depth to dictate a faster paced game. Wayne, please have some confidence in your personnel not named Anthony Johnson. Take the reigns off now and then. Good things can and will happen!!!

Huse had a very good game plan and knew how to attack the Griz bigs inside. They were stepping up to trap (stop penetration) but the onside help D was terrible by the Griz and every cut/bounce pass to the cutter was killing them. I didn't see any adjustments for this either so not sure what the Griz were doing there. The Griz have the bigs, but they are pretty slow in my opinion to adjust on a cutter (slow footed). I think you will see other teams see the game film on this game and will do some of the sames things. The best way to attack teams that are big is to go right at them and attack.

That's spot-on. The Griz couldn't rotate in time and the Cats killed them on that. Like you said, there was no coaching change on this all night. Not sure what Tinks was thinking.

UM allowed the Cats to drive down the middle, as well as the baseline, too many times. When second UM defender stepped in to help, the Cats dished off to the man of the player who had come to help, or on at least one occasion, to the cutter coming down the middle.

I am praying he keeps his commitment to the GRIZ. He, Reader, and the guard we got from CA all are good recruits. I cannot wait to make ihs commitment official, that way we do not have to worry if he will go to a bigger program.
