Also, don't put Gonzaga in the same sentence as Villanova, and Duke they have actually won National Championships, Duke has been to the Final Four 14 times. No matter what you tell yourself your not even close to being in their league. :shock: :thumb: :thumb: You have definately made me a fan of St. Marys though. :thumb:

Dumbass institution? No money? I didn't say we are Duke. I didn't say we are Villanova. I said stadium size, especially in college basketball, doesn't really matter as much as you say it does.

I will still hold that Gonzaga is an elite program, however. The tourney wins will continue to add up and we will continue to advance deeper and deeper every year. It is inevitable.

Now, if you are trying to compare Weber to Gonzaga or any of the top 3 teams in the WCC, you are kidding yourself. You have a nice little brother program down there in Utah, but nothing more than the 3rd or 4th best program in the state.

I'm always anxious to hear the postgame interview and see the coaches show. Missed the coaches show last night but as again dismayed by the postgame coach interview. Absolutely no blame taken by the head coach. I thought we were thoroughly outcoached in this one. I'm tired of hearing that we need to get the team "on point" and "on page". The Cats gameplan appeared to be spread the court, use at least 20 seconds of clock and bring the Griz big men out from the basket. We'd then get caught in some weird switches and Cats would take it to the hole. Our big man defense was poor. I recall Selvig getting taken to the hole by Howard and others numerous times and they always seemed to get the shot off. Isn't Selvig 6 inches TALLER than Howard?

Our rebounding was awful. Did Mathias Ward have strep throat as well? He's played pretty well all year and deserved some minutes in this one, particularly with Qvale sick. Banny got some minutes and had no impact. Would you rather have a 6'4" inch senior in Banny or a 6'5" inch sophomore (maybe RS frosh) Andy Garland on our roster? Garland about the best rebounding HS player I've ever seen. Also pretty good at handling the ball, shooting FT's and 3's.

Late game comeback had me questioning where AJ was the first 1 minutes of the second half. He had 14 at half and scored his first second half points with about 4 minutes left. Ended up with 17 in the half!!

Tinkle's favorite season is about to begin....the "hype" season where we hear how good we're going to be NEXT YEAR.

ha, guess i have my moments. :lol: i think in general people get too cuaght up in one game, good or bad. couple weeks ago the cats lost a couple straight and people were saying huse needed to go. :shock: now, you guys have one tough loss to the cats and people are acting like the season is over. forget your near 20 wins. who cares about big wins against the two "top" teams in our league. nope, all that matters is that you lost to the cats, and tinkle needs to go. :roll: it's just a crazy mindset to have. the parity in college hoops far exceeds that in football. you won't see florida lose to richmond or south alabama in football. that is exactly what they did in basketball. kansas has lost to tennessee and oklahoma state. and i doubt they're looking to get rid of self anytime soon. it doesn't matter what conference you are in, games are still tough to win. it's all relative. the griz beating the cats or weber is just as tough for them as it is for the jayhawks to beat their conference foes. you're not going to go undefeated in conference like you do in football. all you can do is set yourself up for the conference tourney, and you guys did that. you got a home game. win that, and you play a team you have already beaten. guess i don't see what the problem is.

I have to agree with Mousegriz regarding his post on the Cat game. The games we have lost in conference play can be mainly blamed on our poor offensive performance in the start of the first half. We have a poor offensive scheme in my opinion and seem to do better when AJ and Cherry freelance rather than run any set offense. Staudacher is a one dimensional offensive player who can be taken out of his game fairly easily. McGillis is good at defense but seems to lack the skills necessary to score on the offensive end and that hurts us because teams back off of him and sag inside. Cherry needs to mature offensively next year as the Cats backed way off of him and packed their defense inside begging him to shoot the 18 footer which he is reluctant to do. As far as the hype goes, AJ is a given to be first team all Big Sky but I don't see any other of our players making the second team. Unless true freshman recruits fill the void, I see the Griz having a tough time next year filling up the basket.

ya, and i can understand that completely. but it happens to every team in the country. teams are going to have letdown games that are dissapointing to the fans, coaches, and players alike. some people act like the griz players and coachers were just messing around out there and don't even care about the loss. that is stupid. i promise you your team wanted to win, and had just as much "heart" as my cats. but sometimes you just have games like this. even the mighty griz. but just from a basketball standpoint, i don't understand why some people think the performance of your team is unacceptable? what makes the griz so great that they should be dissapointed by a 20 win season? i can understand your extremely high expectations in football. previous griz PLAYERS have given you that right with their success. but there isn't a powerhouse in this conference in hoops. weber likes to think they are...but a team that only makes the big dance every few years isn't a powerhouse. the big sky will never be the ACC, SEC, or even the PAC-10. but that doesn't matter. because our conference is still made up of good players, coaches, fans, and venues. year in and year out the teams are usually very even. i mean even the "best" in our league in weber state needed 3 overtimes to beat the "worst" in the league idaho state. it just happens. we beat up on eachother like most conferences in the country do. this isn't about settling for being mediocre, and to suggest that coaches and players in the big sky are content with that is asinine. but we don't have any powerhouse teams in this league. we don't have teams that make constant NCAA appearances. obviously we'd all love to be the team that finally steps up and becomes dominant. but it hasn't happened yet, so i guess i don't understand the frustration that people are having. now, if i was a sac st fan, or idaho state fan i'd be getting impatient with always being near the bottom and missing the playoffs. but i just don't see how people can be upset with 20 wins, a berth in the conference tourney, and a shot at representing our conference with 63 other teams.

Well, from where I was sitting, there were a lot of rebounds we should have had, we had 3 guys down low a few times and they didn't box out and then Bynum flew in, stole the rebound away and got the bucket. It happened quite a few times. The Griz didn't hustle for the rebounds, basically the Cat's wanted it more. I'm not saying the Griz just went out and stopped playing, they just didn't play up to their potential and that's frustrating.

So, do I really come off as that spoiled? Perhaps you are talking in general about our fans, but I don't think I ever said I was unhappy with our season, just this game. The Griz are talented. When they are on they can be unstoppable. I have been happy with them more that frustrated this year. I don't think I have been calling for Tinkle's head but I think he needs to be accountable as much as the players for a loss. Besides, it doesn't matter if I think he needs to go or not, he is here for at least two more years regardless and I think he will be here for quite some time to come so long as he keeps the Griz above .500. Part of the problem on message boards is that the response is instantaneous, no one on here takes time to cool off and think things over. More than half our posts are probably knee-jerk and we should probably sleep on. Eh, it's not like I'm going to stop watching the Griz or being optimistic about their chances, it's just frustrating to see the Griz BBall team come out and lay eggs during the big games the last few years. I hope we see the Cats again in the championship game, though!

no that was my bad. i quoted you post because i agreed with it, then went in another direction without clarifying. sorry. i just mean in general some people seem to think just because you are successful in football that you are supposed to be top dog in hoops too. i was simply pointing out that these expectations seem to be unjustified because no coach....for no team...in the history of the big sky conference has made his program a dominant one. we can't help the fact that we are in the big sky conference. if we had similar records but in a bigger conference we'd be in the dance every year. people act like finishing 4th in the conference is so bad, but many very good teams will be in the field of 64 in a couple weeks that are in 4th or some even farther down in their conference. but being a small conference, we don't have the luxory of that happening. you must finish first, and first only. look at any "dominant" team in the nation, and look at their conference standing for the last 20 years. i think many would be surprised at where some of these teams finish, and it's not because they are bad...but because their conference is so balanced. duke and carolina don't win the acc every year. kansas doesn't win the big 12 every year. and 'cuse doesn't win the big east every year. and if you really wanted to be critical you could make the case that those teams SHOULD win it every year because they bring in far better talent than the rest of their league. that doesn't happen in the big sky. there is not one single school that recruits better than anyone else. so it makes sense that our league is so even, and any team can win. weber is the only team in the history of the big sky to win 3 titles in a row, and that was 30 plus years ago. the pattern here seems to be a really good team comes around, wins a couple, and then starts rebuilding...nevada in the 80's, idaho um, and boise in the 90's, and more recently you guys and psu. it's how it goes. i'm not counting any team out, but with lillard and the rest of the young talent at weber, i really wouldn't be surprised to see them win this year and maybe next. with teams being so even, all you really need in this league is the one star player capable of dominating.

This one shows up a bit more as it was our seniors swan song, against the catz, and a rare full house wanting badly to get into the game. Although no measuring stick exists to gauge effort, It was obvious to a large group of us in the nose bleeds that the catz came out wanting it more - I am not giving up on the guys, I have seen worse, but hope they left this turkey behind them. We do have an incredible team and expect better soon.

Haven't given up yet I have faith and truly believe they will play some of their best ball of the season comin up here and will give us what we all want a BSC title. GET SOME GRIZ!!!
