Griz Band?

Couldn't start watching until the 2nd quarter I was thinking, where's the UM band? Guessing they were taking it easy to get ready for halftime because they sure came alive in the 3rd.

They sound good btw, pulling for the Griz in this one.

The UM marketing director has decided it is better to have a DJ than to have the band playing other than during the 3rd quarter.

The band definitely played at other times, but the DJ thing isn’t working with the crowd. The timing of announcements and everything they are trying to fit into the game to fill time is making it all feel clunky.

As the director of the Grizzly Marching Band I should probably weigh in here. I can assure you we were there the whole time - from Griz Walk through the end of the game. We love supporting the team and were doing our best.

What you may have seen is when we left the stands to stage for halftime. We usually leave the stands with about 6-7 min. left in the second quarter.

I base that on whether we're seeing a lot of running plays or more passing plays. The time disappears faster with running plays and we need to be in position, and clear of the tunnel before the half ends.

I think the team enjoys our support but they really don't want to encounter 150 of us coming down the tunnel when they are heading to the locker room.

As for DJ Briggs, his contribution to the game isn't impacting what we do between plays to provide music. He has more flexibility in the way he can mix music than just playing a stock track from the booth. It gives some variety in those times where the PA music is used. It hasn't caused the GMB any problem.

I think the DJ is a terrible idea, and why he is playing music between the plays while the Griz are on offense is baffling.

Kevin,

Thank you for taking the time to make a statement on here and clarify how you run things. After the last couple years I think there has clearly been discussions on how to handle things from a PR standpoint from the AD and school. I wish the same pressure could be applied to the coach especially when he treats other members of the AD staff like Tabor or the media like crap in a far reaching public forum.

If you’re viewing this and commenting clearly others in the athletic department are as well.

The band is a huge part of the college football experience. I appreciate the work you do and the time and effort your students put into this in all athletic events.

Thanks for your message! I love working with the students and being part of such an amazing game day experience. I did my graduate work at Northern Colorado (just before they moved up to FCS but 1 year after Joe Glenn) and can tell you that what we have going on here is special compared to what fans at many other schools experience.

I don't know who else at UM may read Egriz but I enjoy reading Brint's scouting reports/game follow-ups, and posts like the Good, Bad & Ugly among others. I love football and enjoy being connected with Griz Nation. Go Griz!

Keep up the great work! The state song, Up with Montana and our national anthem still give me goose bumps!!! Plus every time the Griz score a touchdown but that's out of your control...

Can someone please, for the love of God, get the music person to quit playing music when the Griz are getting set up on offense? What if Griz wanted to go quick? Music still playing....there was a time when Davis snapped the ball and music was still going. I was kind of waiting for something from the refs, but never heard anything. I feel like once the playclock is running and the offense is approaching the ball to lineup, shut that shit off!

Griz band, you guys are awesome and always kick ass!

I assumed the band was caught in the new security line with the over-zealous security person, like the team was before the game.
