Griz win 97 to 64 over St Martins, a team that was a little better than Great Falls. Now, that 64 by them, I am kind of confused. Sometime before the final buzzer, I saw 67 points by them, and the KGVO radio announcer said 97 to 67. But at final buzzer, it was 97 to 64 on scoreboard, and on www.montanaGrizzlies.com on the play-by-play ticker it was 97 - 64.
Anyway, Kyle Sharp had one hell of a game. Scored 18 points on 9 of 11 from the field. Also had 7 rebounds.
Sharp, though, wasn't the leading scorer.
Criswell had 21 points, 7 - 9 from the field, 3 of 5 from 3 pt land, 4 for 4 from freethrow line, and 7 rebounds.
Virgil Matthews scored 22 points, 7 of 9 from the field, 2 for 2 from 3 pt line, 6 of 7 from freethrow line, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Andrew Strait and Matt Martin were the other two in double figures with 13 points and 10 points, respectively.
Andrew Strait led the team with 11 rebounds.
Bryan Ellis had 7 assists and only 2 turnovers in 19 minutes of playing time. Funny, though, that the St Martin coach complained about Ellis carrying the ball after being called for a technical, and then Ellis gets called for carrying the ball twice after that. Actually not funny. Just about everybody carries the ball now days. But this coach seemed to have brought it to the refs attention to watch for it with Ellis.
Griz shot 60% from the field (36 - 60), 7 - 14 from 3 point line, and only 18 - 27 from free throw line. Again, Andrew Strait seems to have problems at the line just like last year.
The other team shot in the low 30s.
Griz outrebounded the smaller St Martin team by 50 to 22 margin.
Griz turned the ball over 20 times. the other team turned it over 15 times. The other team did look like they played more games then the Griz. But the talent clearly was on the Grizzly's side. This team is going to be a good team this year, and even much better in the next two or three years. Barring Injuries and unforeseen circumstances, of course.
Anyway, the exhibition season is over and now the games are finely going to get better. Griz head out on the road for games against Boise State on November 18 and Loyola Marymont on November 21. Griz play home and home with Loyola Marymont this season. Will meet them right back here in Missoula on December 6th.
