Good start for the season. Shot pretty well at times. Still more turnovers that I like to see, but it is the first game of the year. Looking at the stats, Matt Martin was the primary culprit for the turnovers. He committed 6 of the total 19 turnovers for the game.

Griz had 4 players in double figures:

Dlouhy 15 points, 10 rebounds
Matthews 12 points, 3 assists, 1 turnover, 4 steals
Strait 12 points
Hasquet 10 points, 4 rebounds

Kevin Criswell 12 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 turnover, plus a team high of 5 steals.

Overall, team shot 44% from the field, 70.6% from the freethrow line(not that bad at all). Shot only 31.3% from the 3 point line.

Overall, Matthews played the best in this game. Dlouhy and Criswell also played well. What needs to improve is Matt Martin with the turnovers, and would like to see better rebounding from Strait (only 3 rebounds). Overall, Griz rebounded quite well, outrebounding the smaller Argos 62 - 32.

Next up: St Martins, next friday at 5:05PM (pretty early). Do not know anything about, just hope they are better than the Argos.

I agree with True that Matthews was really impressive. This guy plays 3 positions well, is completely unselfish and is a tremendous defender. Dlouhy also looked great. Criswell played super hard but had a tough night shooting. I believe he was 1-9. I was suprised Hasquet played as much as he did given his very recent return to practice. The biggest suprise was the play of true freshman Kyle Sharp. He had 8 points and 13 rebounds in only 15 minutes. I don't see how the GRIZ can afford to redshirt him.

The Argos are a joke, they are a joke in the frontier. How did the JC point guard play? Hasquet must be fairly healthy. Did Van Vliet make an impact at all?

Van Vliet had 2 points, 4 fouls, 3 rebounds, and 2 turnovers in 7 minutes of play time. Not to impressive, but is his first game. I don't think we will be seeing a lot of him this year, or at least early on if he is a fast learner.

Bryan Ellis did fine. Like most JC recruits will take time before we really see how good this guy is.

Hasquet moved pretty good. He may have been taped up pretty good.

Van Vliet missed his senior year due to injury and probably has some rust to work off. He is a BIG guy and looks to be pretty physical. St. Martins in a D2 school and should provide better competition. They also play the cats in their pre-season.

Sharp had 8 points and 13 rebounds in 15 minutes? That's taking advantage of playing time, wow. Hasquet's 10 pts and 4 rebounds were in 12 minutes. I would assume his wind isn't real good at this point. He also hit two threes.

Montanagrizzlies.com is the source of the stats I mentioned. Kyle averaged 30 points a game his senior year in high school. I doubt he'd been available to the GRIZ if they had not signed him early. He is extremely active and athletic. It will be interesting to see how he does against better competition. Ellis is a true pg and showed nice passing and defense tonight. It will also be interesting to see how he fares against better teams. Hasquet (leg) and Dlouhy (knee) were wearing ice packs at the end of the game.

You will find that DII schools aren't necessarily better than decent NAIA teams. That being said, a scrimmage with the Women's team would probably be closer than UGF.

I would bet on a D2 team over a NAIA on most nights. It seems that D2 teams aren't as small as the usual NAIA, and don't usually play the helter-skelter, frantic pace of a game that the Frontier is legendary for. Therefore the Griz should get a game that should more prepare them for their D1 opponents.

However, St. Martins is routinely near the basement of the GNAC conference in which they play.

Over the past ten years, the Frontier conference has fared VERY well against DII teams. As for other NAIA schools, I can't speak for them. And the style of play is no different. They, like the Frontier, are guard heavy and undersized............therefore more perimeter oriented. I'm not sure where your claims are coming from??

the claims come from the fact that d2 players are sometimes d1 academic casualties. they land on d2 campuses and cities, but posses d1 skills. most d2 schools fly to games and naia catch the bus or vanpool...i think naia also play on nerf hoops

purely false would mean all false, which is not true most of the time. naia is rat ball supreme. cold winter montana gym rats hoopin all the time. very entertaining and fun to play i venture, supplying many barnburning events. but come on fella, d2 players are bigger, stronger, faster than naia players. just follow the chain all the way up to the nba, each level is bigger, stronger, faster. play horse and see who wins.

I'm sorry you don't have all your background information, now get back to Algebra.
